Default Garage door goes down then back up - limit switch wire broken

My garage door would go down and then back up. I checked all possible external issues before taking the opener apart. It turned out to be a broken limit switch wire.

Same issue as here. The grey wire was broken.

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else has the same issue with the door going back up and has not checked this component.

I am pretty sure the wire is 20-22 gauge. Was just gonna reconnect the wire with butt connectors here.

Unless someone has a better suggestion with reconnecting the wire?

Thanks

Thanks for sharing..

Those wire butts work well. If you use those do a "tug" test to make sure they are holding the wires together well and make sure they are the correct size for your combination of wires.l. If you want to go the extra step you could also use electrical tape around the wire butts once it's installed and tug tested. That way it won't ever loosen off.

Alternatively, if you have the tools and know how. Solder is always a good option.

Thanks. I thought about soldering the wires, but would be tough to do with them hanging from the opener. I might be able to figure out how to do that. I just soldered some wires together last week. 1st time since shop class in high school over 30 years ago. hahaha

Moved into a south facing place last summer. The sun was hitting my sensors in the fall, and now again in Spring. Not the same as yours, but was a pain in the ass. I cut a couple 6” lengths of scrap abs pipe and slid over sensors. Works great.

Thought I show my solution in case anyone else has this problem with the limit switch. Wire is 20 gauge. Used a butt splice connector 22-18 gauge on the grey wire. See finger pointing to connection. Then used electrical tape around it. Problem fixed.
