Default Muzzle Covers

Hi all,

I have been searching on AOF and cannot find feed for "Muzzle Covers". I understand that you can use electrical tape or painters tape, but I would like to buy covers that will slid on and off that you can shoot through. Any idea of where to buy?

Thanks,
Eric

First aid supply stores will sell you “finger cots” which are basically mini condoms that you can roll down the end of your barrel. You can also make your own from fingers cut off small rubber (or polyurethane) gloves. That way you can choose your colour.

There are rubber finger condoms, basically cover the tip and first knuckle of your finger. They work great, not heavy rubber either, like a latex glove material. Buy a bag of them cheap and don’t take up a lot of space or weight.

You can shoot through electrical tape just as well. Carry a roll of Scotch 88, and you will have years worth of covers that are also useful for other purposes.

lol, nicely done. I too am unsure of why anyone would need to look beyond electrical tape. Perhaps the snoot factor?

Clear Christmas wrapping tape,on the end and trimmed with scissors/knife. No black tape residue on the end of the barrel, tape sits on the crown of the muzzle, gets out of the way in a hurry.

Electrical tape you can use it for other problems that need tape to like taping the rock you put in your hunting partners pack so it dosnt rattle on his pot set before you start your 20km walk.

I use electrical tape and keep a few spare strips on my stock for replacements. It does leave a residue that I clean off at the end of the season but doesn’t affect accuracy at all.

Default This.

Exactly, the bullet never touches the tape, the column of air in the tube is forced out in front of the projectile and this air blows the tape off long before the projectile ever reaches it.

If you are having issues with electrical tape not sticking, or becoming brittle and breaking loose in the cold, use a better grade of tape. Scotch 88, works well in all temperatures.

I’ll give praise to Scotch Super 88 electrical tape, as well.
We use it at work, and I’ve used it at home, and I have used it as a muzzle protector.
It works plain and simple.
As does the caulking tube condoms.

The purpose of muzzle covering is to keep it protected and to keep debris and water out. The only way I’ve found to affectively do that is with Scotch 88 electrical tape. I want something that does not come off unless I say so.

I carry a cleaning rod with me.
If its raining really hard i walk with my muzzle down. Otherwise i keep the muzzle out of the dirt.
If i am in doubt i will verify safe, pull the bolt and check the chamber/barrell for obstructions.

In the Army we had plastic muzzle covers to keep dirt/debris out of the barrel. But we were crawling in the mud all the time.
