Default Hooter's 2017 Antelope

Well, I know there's a lot of trepidation by members to post pics as of late, but I thought I'd put up some pictures of my 2017 trophy antelope. I'll start off by saying a HUGE thank you to a former AO member for all his help in making this happen. Without him this would have NEVER become a reality. I can never thank him enough for his guidance and the hospitality forwarded by him and his wife. I'm truly grateful!!!

I'll say that this hunt was like nothing I've ever done before. The thing I found most surprising was that antelope seem to prefer the flattest and most open terrain possible, rather than the coulees and bushy areas that I normally associate with deer. It took a couple of days to stop looking in the draws and along tree lines and focus on the open grain fields and pastures. Once we had this figured out we saw plenty of antelope. Another thing that was very apparent was that neither myself nor the two guys I was hunting with had a clue on how to field judge antelope. They all kind of looked the same! I think we may have passed up a couple of bucks that we shouldn't have!

Anyway, after a couple days of scouting and learning where to look and how to better field judge bucks, we ended up seeing a buck lying in an open grain field. We thought he was worth a closer look, and after belly crawling to within 200 yards we figured he was big enough to take. He ended up green scoring 80" with 16" horns, and I couldn't be happier. He's at Sugar Creek Taxidermy right now, and I look forward to seeing Marco bring him back to life. Hope you like the pictures.

Believe me, I was surprised as well! The circumference measurements helped it.
