Default Savage Arms 111 FCXP3 Trigger Replacement

Hi Everyone,
I just purchased a Savage Arms 111 FCXP3 in a .300 Win Mag and I absolutely Love it so far, fired about 30 times so far. My only complaint is the stiff Trigger... What do you all recomend? Can I adjust or should I just buy a new trigger and what kind? Any input would be awesome. Thanks

I bought the same model this winter in 22-250 and the trigger was just brutal. I bought a Timney Trigger and put it in in about 15 minutes. It cost me about US$120 shipping included direct from the company. It was money well spent and a real nice accurate rifle now.

I have the instructions to lighten the existing trigger but for $120 I didn't bother trying it.

The rifle that I was referring to in my last post was a 3006 not a 22-250. Everything else was right though. My bad.

You can adjust the trigger on the Savages.
When you take it out of the stock there is a small screw onn the right side - go slow and just a bit at a time (1/8 turn - or less)

X2, you will see a dramatic improvement on weight of pull. If after that you still want a aftermarket trigger, have at er.

I also have an 11FCXP3,
I replaced the trigger spring wire with a 0.041" spring and lightened the spring tension a bit so that it is still very safe. It's an inprovement but the trigger is still bad.
Being a born tinkerer I could help but order an SSS trigger, I paid a US$104 incl shipping.

Should receive it next week.

Cat - Is this on the non-Accutrigger models? I thought that only the Accutrigger models were adjustable. It might have made a difference in my decision to purchase the Tinmey.

OOPS! Sorry, yup non accutrigger models.
I think the accutrigger is adjustable without removing the stock.

So the non-Accutrigger models are or are not adjustable for trigger pull then?

No they are both adjustable, you just have to take the non-accutrigger rifles out of the stock to work on them.

You can adjust the non accutrigger but its very dangerous, they tend to slam fire ...go with a SSS trigger (sharp shooter supply) or timney and toss the stocker in the trash...

The only screw that I remember on my stock trigger that could be adjusted was the set screw on the top front of the trigger body. The tension for the trigger pull was a spring type mechanism (not a coiled spring) that ran along side of the trigger mechanism. I remember getting a link to what was required to lighten a Savage trigger and it involved filing a bit off of the front of the trigger mechanism, changing the set screw and something else. If you guys are referring to the screw that I think you are then I'd have to agree with mulestalker about the dangerous/slam fire part.

The Savage pre Accutrigger triggers can be adjusted, and tuned quite easily, 3-3.5 lbs is not unheard of after a bit of tinkering.

Now if that does not suit your fancy try a Rifle Basix...they will ship right to your door.

+1 my gf and i both have the non accutrigger models, took them out of the stock and lightened up the adjustment screw.. .there is no chance of slam fires as far as i know that is why they put the adjustable screw there...

The ones i know u have to worry about slam fires is the stevens 200's or the older model savages. If you tweak their trigger springs then you might be concerned but the adjustment screw on the 111's is meant to be adjusted....
SAvage brought this new safe adjusting trigger system in when they introduced this combo like 5 or 6 years ago.

Both my gf and I are extremely happy after adjusting our stiff triggers. (factory set round 6 or 7 pounds) down to about 2.5 or 3. Go for it, we are no brain surgeons its easy.

Just like the accutrigger but on it you dont have to remove the action from the stock.

So there are some mixed feelings about this trigger thing. Im confused now. I have a 111 in 30-06 and I love it. So should I try to dial down the stock one? If so, is there somewere that has a procedure? I'm sure its not rocket science once I take off the stock but I like to make sure I know what I'm doing first. I was looking at the Timney websight there and it lists a trigger for a 110 model. Im presuming its the same? Part #631?

just take the 2 or 3 flathead screws out of the botton of your action/stock and the action will come out of the stock... from there... there will be one very obveious allen screw attached to a wire, attached to the trigger... the only one in sight... absolutely cannot screw it up... turn it one way to lighten it... one way to make it heavier... just make triple sure ur gun in unloaded and pointed in a safe direction and test fire it a few times naked(without the stock attached) to see which way does what... its seriously eassier than anyoen would ever think... once ur rifle is ot of the stock it all becomes very clear.... If your worried about anythign. pm me and ill talk you through it. Or pm me ur phone number and ill talk you through it. I just did it to both mine and my gfs and have no prob helping a fellow man avoid the 150 dollar charge of an aftermarket trigger when ones not neccassary.

Here is what a gunsmith does to the trigger in his shop to tune it:
