Default Recommend me a fly line

My old Cortland 444 floating line is ready to be retired. I'm not really an equipment geek, so any suggestions before I buy another Cortland 444. Six weight, lake fishing, l like to air it out, although most of the time it will be choronomids under a bobber. Half a weight over would be fine.

I like some of the Rio lines, if you can find them on sale. Otherwise, they are on the higher end price wise. I like their welded loop feature, makes changing leaders really quick.

Thumbs up Lines

For the price the 444 is tough to beat I like the Rio's myself but if price is a deal breaker go with the Cortland 444 Their Sylk series is awesome for bamboo too

Default Flyline

I second the vote for Barrio, I have several, I think they perform, just as well as Rio gold lines, at less than half price. They come out of Scotland, with free world wide shipping, usually run less than $50 Can. About the only negatives , would be they do not have a welded loop, but they will add one if requested.
These line float very well, they lay out, nice and straight on the water, and do not seem to have memory curls, like some other lines when pulled off the reel.
It usually takes 2-3 weeks to get here, but we’ll woth the time and money in my opinion.

Airflo makes some top tier lines! I’m still using the line I got 4 years ago (dry line WF) and yes it still floats and casts nicely

I believe that there is an optimal line for every rod depending on the casting skills of each individual.
Is it easy to find the perfect line? No, unless you have the resources to try several lines before you buy.
Ultimately, our abilities limit the performance of any line.
If you "think" it's good... it probably is.

Pike...

For bobber fishing you might consider a front end loaded weight forward. Several companies build them. For some years I used a bass bug line.
Look over their web sites for taper diagrams.
Here is an example from Sci. Anglers.

After trying testing and using s zillion lines over the years I have. One to the conclusion that if you like what you have there is no point looking further !
Nothing wrong with Cortland 444 for sure!
Same old story , someone designing something to sell to someone who thinks
( it is told ) they need it!

Just a note: About 25 years ago I asked a field tester for Scientific Anglers about Pike leaders because I was making my own and he told me flat out that he used a straight length of Mason 40# because it was pretty tough and turned s fly over well- go figure , take a look at the number of Pike leaders on the market!

For indicator fishing with chironomids and balanced leeches, and especially when loading up three of the latter, I like the Rio Indicator lines; have them in 5, 6 and 7 wt. Cost more the the others, yes, but I try to stock up when the Fishin' Hole has a sale on.

i started chironomid fishing this spring and asked the same question on a popular FB lake fishing page. Scientific Angler Titan was one of the most popular suggestions so that's what I went with. I love it so far.

If you want a half line weight higher, the Rio Grand is a nice chironomid line. I also enjoy the Loop Opti series of lines, but they can become quite pricey!

Default My favourite line is Lee Wulff triangle tapered line

I have had 2 of these lines and it provides the most delicate presentation of any line I have ever used. Mainly a dry fly line.
