Default Jan. 9 FHA sale

Does anyone else have fur in the sale coming up next week?
Usually the best sale for Beavers of the year. Last year oddly enough Ermine was really high also. I shipped 65 beavers XL and below, (sent the XXL's to NAFA, I just want a top lot cert for Western beaver as FHA only gives one, and 98% of the time it goes to the Eastern, every once in a while the Western Pale gets it), 20 some Ermine, a dozen Squirrel and 10 lb box of castor. Hopefully we see a $70/lb price on the castor.

Apparently no one has fur in with FHA. I'll give this a bump anyway.

I'd be interested to see how that auction goes.

Funny thing......A couple of years ago when there was a lot of controversy about the grading of coyotes I received a top lot certificate from NAFA for a LARGE Western Beaver. I still don't know how that worked out. Wouldn't the +XL Western Beavers sell for more?

There was a mix up either by ATA, or FHA, and my fur was not received in time for sale. It was dropped off on/before last receiving date. Not real happy about it, but life goes on. My biggest concern is that I had a bankers box full of castor alone....not sure I will see the prices listed for castor at the Finland sale. PO'd about that. As always there was a high sale % of beavers at this sale, not sure of price, as I only ended up with the 1 held over beaver. A LGE BRN SELECT, got 15.35 USD.

Castor is only sold at auction at FHA? I send mine into NAFA and it sells at any time of year regardless of whether or not there's an auction.

No castor is sold at either auction house, but only when an offer to purchase is submitted. They agree on a price and sell the lot they have. I apparently have missed the first "lot" being sold. The first batch sold tends to be the highest price, as I would assume the buyers may be a little more desperate to have orders filled. I typically send mine in anytime I drop off fur. This was from Springs caught after I could ship, and fall caught beaver...and a winter or 2.

Mainly unsold on the muskrats?? First sale of the year at the f.h.a? ? ? Oh boy what does that tell you. Why all the unsold fur for the first sale of the year. What are they waiting for? Is there really no demand anymore guys or what? All you regulars on here please put in your two cents. Marty what's your take?

I honestly don’t know what to make of FHA and i’m Trying to figure out if it’d be worth my while to send in my muskrat and beaver......Anything else (ie. coyotes) no way! I’ve been watching it for a few years and I haven’t seen anything to convince me that i’d Be better off sending to them instead of NAFA. Prices seem lower and there’s always a large percentage of pelts that don’t sell.

Muskrat sales have sucked everywhere the last couple of years and, although I love trapping them, I didn’t bother last Fall because of all the small ones that I’d catch. I plan on trapping them when they are bigger this Spring though. I figure that there’s no point to keep flooding the market with pelts that won’t sell.
