Default Which Bow

Alright ladies and gents, been out of the archery world for several years and working on getting back into it. Since technology and manufacturers have changed significantly since I got out, I am looking for a little help. As a result, let me know what you think is the best bow in the $700 - $1000 range. (This is bare bow price, not a package)

Obviously not ideal, but I am looking to do it all (Target, 3D & Hunting) with one bow for the time being so that may affect the options.

Thanks in advance!

Not going to make a specific suggestion but you picked an excellent year to be in the market for a new bow. All the big names seemed to hit home runs his year

PSE Evolve
Mathews Halon 32
Bowtech Reign
Prime Centergy
Athens Revelations
Hoyt Pro Defiant
Elite Option
Darton Maverick

Not sure if a $1000 cap will get you into all or any of these bows, but you will be close.

Between Accurate Archery and Jimbows you should be able to test all the listed bows other than the Athens and Darton.

If you want to give a Darton a go, give me a PM.

Default Assumr

Just from looking, it appears as the bows mentioned are between $1100 and $1400. Is that to imply that there are no good quality bows less than $1000? Are the flagship bows the only bows worth considering?

Sometimes it works out well but factor in exchange, shipping, and the inability to try before you buy....you might end up not saving a dime.

Support local and you will get a ton of service along with a purchase.

Absolutely true. I've bought 2 out of the US and it was very good for me, but I must admit I had tried the models I bought before shopping and I service my bows myself.
Good service (if you aren't doing it yourself) is worth a lot, and you do have the safety factor of buying new.

Default Yeah

I am a fan of supporting local, I just wish it was easier to get a list of the bows they have in stock as well as the corresponding prices from each store. I understand why they don't provide it but it is tough to shop and find what you want to test.

If you go to Accurate Archery or Jimbows with $1000 for the bare bow you are going to end up with a sweet rig, set up and ready to go. Some good deals on last years models. The USD is really jacking up Canadian prices

Think I saw a Bowtech BTX-31 at JimBows in Edmonton marked down as it is last year's model. Shot it side by side with the Reign and decided to treat myself to a Reign but really liked the BTX as well. As was already stated though, lots of new flagships out there that are really nice.

I find if your going to invest in a bow don't cheap out cause then after a year you will be like I want better and now your spending more cause you don't get much from reselling it...

Default Agreed

I am certainly not trying to cheap out, just looking to get some opinions on what the best bang for the buck is. I definitely have a couple specifics that I want in a bow so I doing my research as I don't intend to sell it in the near future.

I enjoy my bow, it's a bowtech carbon icon. My full package that I bought at the time was $1300. The bow if I remember correctly alone was ~$850.

Bear would fit into the price range of under $1000.00. However I think you pretty much have to buy from a box store in order to purchase any of their adult bows. I have seen the youth models available at the odd local archery proshop. But I don't recall seeing the full lineup anywhere else besides Cabelas. I'd rather support local when it comes to archery equipment. That way we can keep these places around.

Wow, well that sure is interesting. I am not really a big speed guy. Obviously, it is important to have enough speed but I am not overly concerned if it is say 15 fps slower if it feels better to shoot and more accurate.

Do yourself a favor and try an Obsession.

I've owned PSE, Mathews, Darton, Hoyt, and Bowtech, today I shoot an Obsession and think it's the best all round bow I've shot. Bow are extremely personal, with a cam made specifically for many different types of muscle structures. Most people don't realize that it's body structure that determines what a draw cycle feels like, that's why there is so much fighting over what bow has the smoothest draw cycle.

Dead serious, I used to shoot a High Country SpeedPro X10. It would shoot 380+ but you had to use their over spined, ultra light arrows.

So the "fastest bow" thing is relative to specific set of conditions, few of which make sense or allow other bows to use. Most manufacturers will not warranty below 5gr/lb.
