Anyone ever use these guys? Particularly for a bear rug?

I haven't used them for rugs but looked at one they had done when I was picking up capes. It looked good.

I had items go missing for a while there. Also had a lot of holes in some fur that was done. Also was told no longer than 6 months and it took over a year.... Prices are way too high compared to shipping fur out to another place. I stopped using them and ship my fur out now.
I have seen some rugs done there and they looked good but I bet he's playing middle man and not doing the taxidermy work.
Richard Page in Ardrosson does good bears if you need a rug done and prices are real good

My buffalo rug was kind of a gong show
Took forever to get done
Would get a call saying it’s ready
I’d go down there, then they couldn’t find it
Took a year or so to get it back
Quality of the work was pretty good
But they seem disorganized

They did a Elk hide with hair on. It turned out very nice and I didn't have any problems.

Default Tanning + Rugs

Hey gentlemen. Just want to address any issues/concerns regarding tanning and rugs at Western Fur Tannery. We have been faced with a drastic increase in inventory at our facility and apologize to anyone that has had a negative experience during this time. We have taken the required steps to meet this new demand and are regularly improving our operations to best suit all of your needs. If you return for any additional services after having had experienced previous problems, please notify our staff of the situation and we can offer price breaks or our express service at zero additional cost.
Although we used to outsource some taxidermy work a couple of years ago, please note that all work is now done in-house in a controlled environment. Our rugs are not only aesthetically pleasing but built strong for true longevity. We stand behind delivering a consistent quality product and are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding our services. Please contact us at 780-469-9345

I was told this same thing before my order last time and had issues again. So what steps have you taken? Plus the prices are getting a touch high as well compared to a lot of places in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Are you planing on increases again this year?

Please feel free to contact me and I will look into your orders personally. We have increased our administrative and production staff. We have taken a more aggressive approach to training. Our skinning and raw preparation methods are more thorough to eliminate as much risk as possible. New durable tags are used for tracking of inventory. etc. Due to the fact that we deal with a decomposable product, not all things are in our control and quality of outcome is very dependent on the initial care by owner. We have no plans to increase prices and as far as i'm aware we are still lower than our closest competitors. I can't speak for what other businesses are doing or the quality/service they offer.

Already had the conversation with you and was offered nothing for the problems...
All the holes in the items I had you shrugged off to new hired help.
Lost items took months to find.
Was told things would be done after 6 months and took over a year.
One item was replaced by a stock item you had of your own!
Yes you are less money than your competitor in Edmonton and Edmonton is the highest cost in the province for tanned items but it is still too high.
You can get great tanning and save $20 or more per coyote in numerous other places in the province and even double that shipping it out of province next door.

Well i'm sorry I can't help you without having any further details. Perhaps it was a tagging issue, but i'm left to my assumptions. When problems arise we typically go over and beyond to help out our clients, often times even when we don't believe the problem was caused on our end. Our relationships with our clients comes before the dollar. I wish you had a better experience with us. Of course there is always someone out there willing to do a service cheaper.

I have been using Western Fur for 10 years and haven't had any problems. They have done close to 200 items for me from a life size grizz and Dall sheep to Muskox, caribou, Stone and Big Horn capes. Stanley has always been great to deal with. If I ever decide to get another rug done I will be taking it to them.

I took a mule deer cape into Stanley. He phoned for me to pick up. I gave Stanley my $280, and he went into the back of warehouse. He then Peeked around corner and said sorry the hair slipped. I asked why he took full payment then. He disappeared in the back. He just smiled and said sorry. True story.
