Default Anybody else drawn for non-resident montana deer

First time I have been drawn for Montana non-resident deer hunt from late October to early November. Tag is good for either a whitetail or a mule deer, buck or doe. Was not a cheap tag. Just wondering if anybody else is drawn this year or if anyone from years past can comment on the process of transporting deer from US into Canada. I have a clear understanding of the written regulations but am more wondering how anyone's real life experience went. Any interaction with US fish and wildlife officers? Border crossing? Thank you.

I'd be interested in how your hunt goes so hopefully you can post the results of your adventure in the fall. I've been eyeballing a week long hunt around Fort Peck for a while now. Maybe once the US dollar goes down a bit. Good luck to you.

I think Montana needs to have a reciprocal agreement with Alberta in regards to big game hunting. You all can come down here without a guide but we can't hunt Alberta without one...

Tatonka2 - you can hunt here with a hunter host - doesn't have to be restricted to guide only.

Yes, I did know that. The Hunter Host Program seems to be a bit controversial from what I've read on this site. I did it one time with a friend several years back. I know quite a few people in Alberta and go up quite a bit....mostly for music related events, a little vacationing, etc. The Hunter Host program is nice, but it's not the same as a DIY hunt like you folks can do when you come down here. If you all draw a non-resident license, you can hunt anywhere in the state by yourselves, just like any resident or any other non-resident can. You can knock on doors and ask permission on private property, hunt all public lands, etc. In Alberta you have to be either with the host or on a stand where he picks you up and drops you off from what I understand. But you know, it's better than the other western provinces where an outfitter is required and their is no host program. Oh well.......whoever said life should be fair wasn't thinking about dealing with hunting and fishing regulations.

I've always thought about Montana for antelope hunting, but we have such good deer hunting I don't see why anyone would bother to go south for deer.

Just make sure you know what the regs say you can shoot in the specific hunting district. The tag is good for buck or doe, white tail or mule deer but only if the HD allows it.

Yes thank you for pointing that out for anyone that would not have interpreted that by my initial post. The HD I will be hunting does allow for it. Thanks.
