Default Spec decoys with Canadas

Good morning all.

Just wondering if anybody has used any spec decoys in with their Canadas in the fall? The more the better it seems. I do throw some ducks out, so theoretically the specs should fit right in. Thoughts?

During our best hunt of the year last year, we had a mix of decoys.

Specks seem to get along with everyone.

If there’s specks in the area I add them to the Canadian’s.

If the birds are mixed when I scout then decoys get mixed accordingly. We have had hunts with specs ,snows, Canada's and duck decoys all mixed in together and had awesome success.

As well, we had some great shoots with specs using only Canada decoys. They were finishing well.

Have always had specs decoy well to Canada dekes, never saw the need to purchase the spec dekes.

Default I’d add a few when they are around.

We would get some specs over the Canada’s but then we added a couple dozen speck silo socks into the mix and it was like a switch turned on and we were landing all the specs that come in.
It might have also been the improvement in my calling too, because they really respond to the calls.

Our setup has changed over the years. We ran mostly honker dekes and a few specks for a few yrs, a mix of fullbodies and shells, then pretty much switched to specks as the area we hunt has far more specks. I had honkers til last year, added some speck sillosocks to them, worked well. I considered getting more speck sillosocks when buying all the stuff last year, but I couldn't justify the price on them. I switched to all speck shells last year. I have motion stakes for all my shells, so I used them. We'll run a mix of fullbodies, shells and sillosocks most of the time now, we have some snow silos available as well.
