Default firearm renewal

I am surprised that the firearm renewal will cost me $60. Since when do they change the policy?

Fees came back on May 16, 2011

5-1/2 years ago.

How'd you not know this when your PAL is only good for 5 years?

When I get my pal, the reg says the renewal will be free. I don't have the budget to renew mine. So I guess I just give up?

A buddy's kid 10 years old told me he makes 10$/ hr picking bottles, so only 6-6.5 hrs and you can pay for your pal!

$60 spread over 5 years. I can't imagine that if you actually shoot you don't spend way more than that on ammo and transportation.

I still can't figure out how the OP hadn't encountered the fee before now?
Date of implementation is beyond the current life span of a valid PAL.

Something fails to track here.

Well, regardless of the above questions or comments, if the OP is suffering through hard times right now and can't beg, borrow, or steal the $60, he can temporarily give his firearms to a friend with a PAL, and get them back when he gets together the money to renew. Luckily most seasons are almost over so not a huge loss.

If the OP let's his PAL lapse, it's like applying for your first PAL. Proof of course, references, and lord knows how long of a wait.

If the guy is that hard up, he can PM me, and I'll give a no interest loan of $60 to him, he can have 12 months to make good on repayment.

The shooting sports do cost and the $12.00 per year pay to play government cost is the very least of the many expenses. Here's hoping for better times for you.

I remember the fee was waived for awhile even after they came back. For certain classes no fees were required till 2013. I considered renewing early to avoid the fee, but procrastinated.

$60 every 5 years should not be a make or break point if you own firearms....if it is, then it's too expensive a hobby anyhow!

Dick284 offered an interest free loan to you, take him up on it if the $60 fee is your tipping point.

yet late last year you were considering buying a shotgun and a layout blind.

But yes, the hobby CAN be expensive if you buy all the toys. I also know guys who don't spend much more in a year than license, a few bullets and gas.

and yes I understand things can change in a hurry. I've been laid off a time or two over the years. If that's your situation, good luck to you my friend. And maybe take up that offer someone made earlier so you don't lose your license.

I don't need his money. Thank him so much for the kindness. I will not get the license renewed by borrowing money from others....

Noticed that there are no fees if you support your family by hunting or does this only apply to a select group of people?

Your loss
There's gotta be more to your story to give up so quick...Or you would'nt have told AO your story.
If you're just looking for some sympathy, venting or what have ya we will listen and offer our comments.
But, if you choose to pass on an offer given to you then it's obvious your pride is bigger than your wallet.
Just my .02 cents

If you feel thankful, YOU should thank him. I would not be as kind as he was. To keep your PAL it will cost $60.00. Get over it!
