Can old 3x9 scopes 'lose' their 9?....
So... I got two rifles with older scopes made probably in the late 1970's-early '80s.
One shot great at any magnification for years... up until last year. It's deadly accurate at 6x, but seems to wander at 9x when shooting out to 200 and beyond ( never used to do that).
The other... is spot on accurate when dialed in at 5-6x at 100 or 200 yards.... if I crank it to 9.... it's on paper but all over at 100.... barely hits paper at 200.
So... naturally, I'm treating them as 'fixed' 6x scopes for hunting.
They are backup rifles anyways.
Can this actually happen? Or am I sniffing too much locktight?
And yes... I should know more about scopes, but I've only been hunting using scopes for maybe 7 years now out of my 35 years hunting.
