Default Skinner Sight on Henry

Has anyone replaced a factory issued buckhorn sight on a Henry 22 with a skinner peep sight?

Looking to improve accuracy, and wondering if there would be a noticeable improvement...?

Not exactly the same...but...I put a Marbles folding peep sight on my Henry .22 last year. At 50m went from targets that looked like a scattergun to an inch or so using my backpak as rest.

Peep sights are generally easier for most people to shoot well. I have a Skinner on a Marlin 45-70. I can easily get 2" groups at 100 yards with them. I could sometimes do that with the old V notch sight too but it was a lot more work and I got more fliers, consistency was not as good. As far a peeps go, I still prefer the Lyman or Williams. They are far more adjustable and easier to set and then return for different distances. With the 45-70, it is designed for 10-75 yard bear gun and the Skinner sight works just fine for that, I never change the elevation setting and it is pretty much point and shoot from 10-75 yards.

All you have to do to mount them is install 3 or 4 screws, at least on the Marlin as it is already tapped. If the gun needs to be drilled and tapped I would talk to Henry Remple or Rick at ATRS/Magnum MAchine on the north side of Calgary.

Here is the link to the Skinner Henry info

Appears to me that at least one of the models is a real simple self install, maybe two of them. I would call Skinner and talk to them about the EXACT model you have that you want a sight for. They have always been really helpful when I have called them.

Default skinner

Like the above poster - I have one on a Chiappa, easily do 2 inch groups at 50-75 yards. Quick acquisition, easy to point. I think you will like it. Quality sight.

I have a skinner 22raill sight clamped on my anschutz, it fits fine, the same sight I guess that would clamp on your Henry. I find it better than the leaf although the peep is kind of big and I doubt if it’s more accurate for someone with better eyes than me than the folding leaf. The skinner set screw elevation adjustment is not very good, I find the sight ok but you can get a good Williams receiver sight to clamp on your Henry for target, it looks not the best and requires a higher blade, I have one on my Henry rail
