I have only been shooting bow for a year or so now, but never shot 3D or anything like that.....this sounds like a lot of fun just to take it in and hang out, but what is the calibre of the "contestants"? I guess what I'm asking is would "joe blow archer" (aka me) fit into something like this when I haven't done such stuff or know the rules, etc.? Thanks all.

Pretty laid back and informal shoot. Most of the real serious shooters tend to shoot in the same groups, the rest is specifically for "joe blow archer".

It is great practice for hunting or just pure fun if you are not a bowhunter. The hosts of the Oilman's Shoot are some of the nicest folks you will meet.

If you don't know anyone or are concerned about how to shoot 3-D, pm me closer to the date and you are more than welcome to shoot with me.

Thanks 338, it sounds like a real opportunity to gain some experience, tips, and connections! My bow is set up to hunt...does a guy need any special or unique gear to participate, or just the bow and field points? Hope to attend.

Come as you are. Bow and field points. Most 3-D shoots are set up with distances of 20 to 60 yards (if it is a sanctioned event the longest shot allowed is 50 yards).

You might want to invest in a target style hip quiver. Very handy for carrying arrows, bug spray, and extra gear.

Most shoots allow binoculars and in some cases rangefinders.

Bit Runner can likely be more specific than I have been.

Just as Bluff has said other than that there will NOT be any shot longer than 50 yards and there are NO range finders allowed. If you go on the web site and click on rules you will get lots of info there as well. Just come and enjoy your self. You will have fun my friend.

As of right now 32 Registered today alone, filling up fast

Just had the kids at the archery center this morning and shooting at 30 and doing a decent job. This shoot sounds like it would be a lot of fun for us!

Default Oilman's.

We have decide to cap it at 150 archers. We will run 3 full 25 target courses at once. Skipping a station on each course to get some distance between archers works out to 150 +/- archers with 4 archers per station. 50 people registered today so far.

Hmmm, I'd love to get out there for this one, sounds like a blast, although it would be my first every 3D shoot and am definitely worried about looking like a fool! hahaha
Sounds like its filling up fast tho...and I'm not sure if I'll be able to convince the wife tho!
I'll get started working on it tho! haha

Doesnt matter what your skill level is everyone is welcome. WE had an awesome time last year, even in the pouring rain. great people and a great venue. The great thing about archery is it is a big family essentially. Whether you are learning or have been to worlds you will make new friends and find someone who is willing to help you along with out making you feel like you dont belong.

Come on Trad shooters get signed up we need more of you guys and gals there.

Cant wait for this shoot

Ya that's just a mistake. We are also missing FBO as well for some reason. It was there last year and now its gone and there is 2 MBR. It will be fixed shortly.

Me and the girlfriend just signed up! Will also be our first shoot unless we get to one before this. Hope we weren't too late. Sounds like a really good shoot! Are the ladies allowed range finders? Out to 50 for the ladies too?
