Thumbs down Tradition Pursuit Blackpowder problems

Just posting this for my husband;

"Has anyone had problems loading a Traditions Pursuit .50 cal
From the very first shot, I had cleaned the gun as per instructions, and had a little difficulty seating the bullet to the end because the provided ramrod was too short.

I was told the rifle would fire 6 - 7 shots before cleaning, but this is not the case. Even after cleaning after every shot did not help one bit. The second bullet that I attempted to load into the chamber broke the ramrod. The bullets never seemed to fit well. The bullets were saboted 50 cal Nosler. "

I load my .50 cal inline with .44 cal saboted bullets. It's not a traditions but that shouldn't matter what make it is. Get yourself a bullet starter. It's been a few years since I shot mine but I'm sure this is how it is.

Try Traditions Smackdown bullets as the come with a three petal sabot which load a lot easier. I notice a night and day difference when I load these in my Traditions Vortek.

I would try different bullets and sabots. As mentioned the 250 Hornady SST with the black sabot has always worked well for me. Also the powder used can be the issue. Some powders leave a lot of fouling making the next loads hard to seat. Try IMR White Hots or Blackhorn 209. For sure get yourself a nice short starter to get the bullet into the rifling.

Interesting.

Side by side against an encore I always fount the traditions rifles a bit looser in the throat.

I've never tried the nosler sabots... I use 250 grain SST's.

I wonder though... a broken ram rod.... hmmm.... could it be that the sabots are being used with a slightly larger calibre bullet than intended?
Say a 45 cal in a sabot intended for 44 cal?

As for crud buildup I use Blackhorn 209 now.
It cleans up easy peasy and doesn't build up in the chamber shortening your range time.
