Default Hornady 75 and 80 grain amax lengths

He all,

I was wondering if someone could post the lengths of these bullets. I can't seem to find anything in a web search, amazing as that may seem. I'm trying to decide what twist to get in a 22-250 barrel. I need the length for stabilization calculations. Thanks,

Norm

75 gr Hornady Amax OAL 1.110"
75 gr Berger VLD Target OAL 1.060"
I dont have anything heavier
Lots of heavy bullet choices for .224" cal, good summary in here.

An 8 twist will do for up to 80 grains no problem. You will be able to shoot the 90 grain vld with a 7 twist.

According to the program I have, an 8 is marginal for both. 7 is preferred.

Are you using the Sierra program? Best thing would be to talk to your barrel maker.

I shoot 70's out of my 9 twist 223 with great results and have heard of guys using the hornady 75 bthp out of 9 twist 223.

It's a JBM based calculator. Might have something to do with the speed. I did them at 22-250 velocities, not 223 velocities. If anything the increased velocity should cause more stability, but it didn't seem to be enough. Like I said, they were marginal, not a fail. I had to increase the velocity to over 3400 fps to get an 8 twist to run in the "green". The 7 twist gave a pass at velocities down to about 3000 fps for both the 75 and 80 grainers.
