First gun Ruger 10-22

So took my course last fall, got my licence. bought a 10-22 never got asked for my card do you not need it for a 22.

Yes you do need it. Did you buy it new or private deal?

Yes they should have asked to see it and if you buy one privately they need to see it as well

so do they just look at it or does it need to be part of the paperwork

I think most stores write your pal number down on the bill of sale.

so what happens if it is not on bill of sale whos in trouble me or the store

If you have the rifle, and a valid PAL
No one

But by law, the store has to make sure you have the proper license to purchase and possess a firearm.

And it does not need to be on the bill of sale, or anywhere

Not you. It's not registered. But legally you have to have a pal in order to purchase or possess a firearm so your covered. Not your fault if they were not smart enough to check if you legally could buy it. I would say someone in the store that sold you the firearm is probably in a little crap..
