Default Ion battery question

I own a gen 1 Ion and while shopping at Canadian Tire i saw an Ion 4AH battery on sale for 79 dollars and thought it was a great deal till I got home and it didnt fit the auger. It was a Gen 2 but i just assumed they all fit.Does anyone own multiple Ions and are all the battery connections different? The only difference between the 1 and 2 is a slight thicker plastic.Just venting but what a money grab.

Gen 1 & 3 are interchangeable. Gen 2 is unique.

I agree ION/Ardisam are a bit money-grubbing in the way they constantly release new models with slight tweaks every season just to try to milk more money out of their customers. I was planning to go to StrikeMaster if they did it again this year but it appears they have stayed the same after the release of the Alphas last year. Likely only because Eskimo has released it's ION knock-off for this season.
