Default Fish under boat

Hi forks, I have a question for fish under a driven boat at low speed say 5km/h, my boat motor is not a trolling motor, which making noise. I wonder how deep FOW fish won’t scare away. Thanks

I have trolled over many in the shallows. They tend to not go too far. Within casting range if you see which way they went. Got some good memories doing this with dad as a kid, troll in the shallows casting for pike that scoot away.

Sometimes you can hook pike immediately behind the boat trolling on the main engine not far behind you in the wash. In some cases, I almost feel it attracts fish under certain circumstances.

Other times they are "gone in a flash" - particularly where it's shallow and clear.

Several times we have hooked fish while I was slowly relocating the boat using the main engine.

Thanks, do you remember how deep is? I haven’t find fish under my boat with my helix 7 when my boat slowly moving around 10 feet above lake bottom

Fished in some clear water the last couple years, sometimes out of a pontoon with a iirc 150 hp 4 stroke on the back. Easier to take the kids.

Whites don’t bite when spooked

Pike will, if you can cast far enough ahead that they have settled down

Walleye are always deeper than I can see with polarized glasses, during the day. We catch plenty in 10 ft -12 ft, long line trolling crankbaits….absolutely zero in 7 ft which is about the limit of where I can see bottom

It’s hard to find the strike zone when you can’t slow right down. Gotta play with different lines and cranks to get it right, but if they aren’t on the mood for chasing, you’re gettin skunked.

Anywhere from 10 to 25 feet.

the reason you don't see fish on your helix 7 in shallow water is the cone angle is not reading a very big area . the deeper the bigger the cone angle .
years ago i have caught lots of walleye trolling in 4 feet of clear water right below the kicker motor , this was on a sunny day at hi noon. time of year was may. right after the spawn,
different times of year change everything.
