cleaning a farmergun
Has anyone cleaned an uncleaned gun that has been shot for forever and the barrel never cleaned. I've got enough carbon out of it to make several cans of eco-nut repellant if I could recharge used bear spray cans. It seems as though it will never end. Is there a way of speeding the cleaning process up? I may soon need to replace the brush.

Give it a few repeated soakings of Amzoil Foaming Engine Cleaner
or Mercury Quicksilver cleaner, and all the carbon fouling with be gone after you patch it out.
Then go at it with Wipeout.

Put a foam earplug in the end of the barrel and fill it up with solvent of your choice and leave it muzzle down in something that will catch anything that escapes the earplug... Let it soak for a day then sponge it out.

It took me about a week to get my new to me Swedish Mauser clean. I alternated between Hoppes #9, carburetor cleaner and Wipeout; two or three times a day. I have no idea how many patches I used before I finally had a clean patch come out.

My dad and I used scolding hot water to clean out black powders. Works very well when it's in the water you can run a brush through the barrel. It cleans it like new. Not saying it would work quite as well on a gun that hasnt been cleaned in who knows how long but I works pretty good on the muzzleloaders.
