image.jpg I found a couple small ones and my daughter finds this one, was a good weekend, found 5 in total, and this one obviously the biggest.

They were about 100 yard from each other. Believe I have his photo in this winter, will post if dig out. His horn is thicker but shorter this year, past the prim time.

Wow nice find on those three off the same buck. I have a 4x4 from the last three years and he didn't change got no bigger. Most deer don't get past 150 it takes good genetics to get the big boys.

Cool to see. Thanks for sharing.

Do you think the rough winters we have had have anything to do with them staying the same size?

No I've seen it lots were bucks don't get past a certain size it's just genetics. Some get huge some don't get past 150 seen it lots.

I know some bucks will never break 150", but I haven't really seen them stay the same size before. They typically get shorter tines and more mass as they get older past their peak. I suppose every deer is different.

I also should add I have more experience with whitetail, are mulies different?

There are a couple different sub species of whitetails in Alberta. The big bodied/big antlered deer are one of the subspecies. Most likely O.v. Dacotensis in Alberta.

This is a very good explanation. There are 16 sub species in North America. Some produce heavier antlers.

I know of a guy that was feeding deer on his acreage. He had one Mulie buck that came back yr after yr, one yr while the buck stuck his head in the buckett for oats he had in his one hand, he grabbed one of his antlers and it came off in his other hand. Now thats shed hunting!!!!!!didn't even touch the ground.

I don't think it had anything to do with the winters as this was several yrs ago and all was good then. I think some are destined to only get so big. here is another buck from the same area. Found all three right sides this time over three yrs. This one is getting bigger every yr. far right scores around 74, but he had a good frame three yrs ago as my guess would be a three or four yr old at that time

Moisture can effect antler size. Wet years produce bigger antlers than dry years.

This isn't from this year, but pretty cool still; probably doesn't happen much... Found these two sheds one on top of the other, one right, one left, both four point mule deer. Not a match.

Finaly got out this past weekend for an afternoon. We headed to an area that is loaded with mule deer and we hunted the land this past season. Last year we did a shed hunt on the same peice of land and we found 3 in a bunch of fresh snow. This time we had great weather and found a ton.
This is what we found in 3.5 hours of grid searching a swath graze.
Quote:
The top middle set whent around 140" and the single on the bottom right whent 70"
Last year we found a total of about 15 so this was an amazing haul for us.
And there all fresh exept for the far left one.

Thats a great haul, to me they all look 1 plus year old, do the bucks not rub their antlers very dark in your area?

In that area there is no trees so there antlers stay really light. The farmer would pick up any he finds so there wouldn't be any in the field before they shed. Quite a few of them still had blood on there bases.

We've got 6 fresh elk sheds so far. I had a herd of 11 bulls on Sunday and all still had both sides on their heads. 5 were spikes, the rest ranged up to 300 class six points. I'd say about half of the bulls on our place have dropped so far.

Found 3 today in Central AB all mulies from last year. One was from a fresh single i found last year 180class buck which was REALLY exciting and a big big 4 point with insane mass and the third one had 3 stickers a broken main beam and still still 6 scorable points! AWESOME start to the season, so excited to get out next week and continue the search

Some mulie sheds from the Baytree area last weekend. All found within a few hundred yards of the inlaws bale yard and grain bins.
