Hunting Camp
Here is this years sleeping accommodations. Its a 16X20 Deluxe wall tent. We had a custom stove made to heat this massive tent.
I can't hardly wait until Nov.1

Decker,
The fire box is 24"L x 18"W x 28" H and the door is 13" W x 11" H. We have only had 1 fire in it to burn out the stove and pipe. Loaded with birch I believe it will heat the tent comfortably. The stove weighs 110# with legs which should make for a large heat sink.

We are heading out this weekend and I think my stove might be a little small for my tent I guess we will see. I built the hunter Cylinder stove it says it will heat a 14 x 16 wall tent which is what I have.

Shouldn't be a problem at all Decker. I have to almost close the air intake on my little stove just to keep from sweating in my 12x14 tent.

Decker you should be ok, we used a cyclinder stove in the previous pic's during a early may camp and it was ok at 0C to -10C. Good wood is important and also not being the guy with the cheapest sleeping bag.

Gorram,

Are you using a drip system?
Or are you atomizing the oil?
How are you heating the oil before combustion?

The oil is in an old fuel tank, hung from a tree, thru a 150micron filter, then the 1/4 in ballvalve (open just a crack) thru 1/4 in copper down the old flue (now makeup air) tube, reduced to 3/16 and drips on to a cone-bevalled steel plate. See link below:

It works good! Lotsa heat! Cost me aprox $50 in spare parts, but for this design to work you NEED to machine the "burner pot", which "Granpa" G made for free.

Thats a great heater. Have you tried diesel rather than motor oil? We hunt in November some years and leaving a tank of used motor oil at -30C would turn the oil to molasses consistency. We all talked about a diesel fired (drip style) heater but the cost was fairly high. The heater you built is a good design and inexpensive to build.

Yup, diesel would definitely flow better....the burner will burn anything I suspect, but I'm not going to try anything thinner than kerosene... 
I should add that starting and stopping the burner needs to be done carefully, to avoid creating an explosive fog.... best to learn under controlled conditions, with safety in mind....
Gonna see in Nov if the oil will flow...

My trailer/Tent
Got the idea from my buddy, though his was a steel trailer with wood bunks. Mine is a 12 footer V shaped aluminum. Usually carry two quads with wood burning stove at front. Sides are 4' high 1/2" plywood, canvass top. We put down foams pads on the floor, that way you can walk in there without boots and it adds as floor insulation. 
A view of the inside. You can confortably have three cots running front to back.

Ballpark, of course! Or as my old HS shop teacher used to say:
"use the SWAG method" (scientificwildassguess)

The trailer weighs on its own 565 LBS. add 6 sheets of 1/2" ply at 50LBS each and another 50 for the tarp, that's an extra 350LBS, so total weight would be 915LBS. Compare with a typical steel trailer at 1100LBS without adding anything to it. In the summer, with my four kids, I carry 3 quads. While hunting I usually take two quads, at the V front is the stove with the bucket full of 2x4 chunks and the cots. Easy driving, trailer does not have brakes. The Triton LT12VR-101 snowmobile trailer is nice in that the sides has a 2" lip which makes it easy to attach the plywood to it, nice and clean, that is opposed to a steel trailer and the stake and pocket look. I painted the plywood silver gray to mimic a full aluminum side. Incidentally, if wanting to purchase a Triton, Martin equipment can't be beat as they truck them in with their heavy equipment from the States, about 500 to 800 bucks cheaper than anybody else.

You kidding? I've always had a canopy, how in heck do you keep yourself warm and "SAFE" in there? I've slept in the cab of the truck many times by myself and with my son now when we need to. We would go in the canopy and cook, don't take much to keep warm, but we always got headaches from the propane heating/cooking, carbon monoxide I suspect. Always slept in the cab, wake up in the night, let the truck run, minus 30, no problems, always warm.
