choose your bullet , then see what the load table for THAT BULLET lists, then see what is available where you shop.

Not to be rude but buy a couple manuals....This topic comes up all the time and to ask for advice on a chat forum from people who may or may not have your best interest at heart is not a very good idea, especially when your dealing with 50 - 65,000 psi next to your face.

Exactly , there are to many experts that are seen beating the bolt open on rifles.
When I do get a load from someone, I ask them to scan the page from the book , or take a picture of it for me.

The slower burning rifle powders are a natural choice for the .300 Win. Mag. H4350, IMR 4350 and RL-22 are good powders for 150-165 grain bullets. For the heavier 180-200 grain bullets H1000, H4831, IMR 4831, IMR 7828, RL-22, and RL-25 are among the recommended powders.

NOW ! how much Powder ? Buy some reloading mauals

180 Barnes TTSX 57.0 grains of IMR 4350 and you should be good to go for life.
Start 10 % lower in your rifle.

You don’t need to go wasting a bunch of money on reloading manuals. Most of the major powder and bullet makers have the info available on their websites. Take some time and start there.

This load should produce a blistering 2450 fps . May as well shoot a light 308...

Buying a couple manuals is far from a waste of money IMO.
The tech and how to sections, are invaluable to a noobie reloader.

Your gonna have to spend some cash to figure out a recipe that your rifle will like....fits the game you Intend to hunt...that's the expensive part....then after that you press a few hundred and your good to go

you right it should be 70.0 not 57 . 57 was for 30-06 150 gr.

The Hornady manual is my go-to, especially if you're going to load Hornady bullets. It's more to do with what your specific gun will like best. Some guys prefer Retumbo, I used H1000 on the advice of an old reloader, but H4350 is an all around great powder for many different calibers. Test a few out. If you're in or near Calgary I have a partially used can of H1000 that you could have. I don't load for 300 win mag anymore so I don't really have any use for it.

Once I get through the exercise of finding load data (whether it be from a reloading manual or from the info provided on-line by some bullet/powder makers), I would choose from among those powders that will fill at least 90% of case volume at the maximum recommended charge weight. I generally avoid compressing powder as well.
I would also give consideration to the type of powder (ball, spherical, extruded). Personally, I stick with extruded powder advertised as being temperature insensitive for hunting applications.

Hard cover manuals are hardly a waste of money..I have at least 7 for cross reference as well as double checking Load data (which I have found a few mistakes in several manuals) (They are only human). I also look up stuff on the net as well, as there is good information on it as well...IF you know what is good information.

The reference pages on internal ballistics, external ballistics and a myriad of other helpful info in a reloading manual is invaluable.

There is a lot more to reloading then sticking a bullet on the end of a piece of brass and have it go bang.

I have plenty of reloading manuals but find myself using Hodgdons online reloading data more and more all the time.

What animal I am going to shoot, at what distance.
What is the best bullet for the job (weight, construction etc).
Any alternatives if this bullet is not available or my gun doesn't like it.
