Default how much differnce is there between 338RUMand 338-378

If i am reloading how much of a differnce is there in a 338RUM and a 338-378weatherby. Just wondering I have a 338rum and the last time I was in hunters edge in G.P. the were telling me that with a 225 gr. bullet there was a 3-400 fps diffrence in the two. My load data says that there isn't nearly this much diffrence. What do you think.

If memory serves me right it's under 150 fps on average with the same weight bullet. My .338 lapua tends to be 50 to 75 fps faster tha the Ultra, and about the same shy of the 338-378. If your thinking of buying, something to consider is Weatherby brass is double the price ,with about half the case life being a belted cartridge.

Of the three, the Ultra is the cheapest to reload, for sure, but the Lapua brass is quite a bit more accurate.

I have loaded for all of them , and prefer the lapua EXCEPT for brass cost!
However, that is a very small consideration, and the Lapua wins out big time.
The Wetherby is a non starter for me, but I handload it for someone else.

The only reason I have a belt is to hold up my pants!

How much more accurate was the lapua at 500 yards. Are you talking about the 338 lapua AI or just a 338 lapua?

The Lapua brass may be of better quality, but I have no problems getting 1/2 moa or better with the 300 ultramag.I would avoid the weatherby altogether because of the price of brass and the fact that it is not the best round to chamber in some actions, because of the large bolt face.

338lapua , standard case on a sako TRGS action. One was braked, one was not.
the unbraked rifle shot better than 1MOA at 1,000meters from MPAL position
(monkey phucking a log)

Qulaity control, the brass is more consistant.
also, for factory rifles, I believe the Sako is a better made rig......
