Default The final duckhunt for the Goldenghost F T line

Took Marley to the vet today for the last time. Vet found very large lumps in the breasts for her during a check up last summer but suggested the surgery would be too radical for a 12 year old dog to cope with and with only a 30% chance of treated dogs making it for a year we just tried to make her as comfortable as possible for as long as we could. We suspect the cancer metastacized for last November the vet removed a very large growth from the bottom of her tongue with surgery. By January we noticed the lymph nodes on both sides of her neck were swollen and although antinflamatories and antibiotics were prescribed it was a full 4 days before the swelling went down and she could breath normally again.

The last pup from a litter of 8 we had not planned on keeping a female but the kids talked me into it. A throw back from her grandmother Chili she had the look and structure of an English golden breeding with long flowing blonde hair. She was so blonde the kids and wife didnt want to get her dirty for the first two years of her life. When I finally snuck her off to a slough we could see that water was where she was happiest. Many times we teased my teenage son she was trying to be a black lab when she came out of the loon shat black from the shoulders down just loving it. I swear she would lay down in the gooey black stuff just to cool off.
My teenage son adopted her as his hunting dog because I had all the hard running males and Marley was much more laid back.

Not great on pheasants (boys work) she just loved ducks and would just tilt her head if she heard a suzie in the cat tails trying to figure out if she was allowed to go get it. My son shot over her for years and if anyone taught him to be a better shot it was Marley for if he missed a few in a row she would leave and join my blind or Brians or anyone that was killing ducks in the area.
Many dogs give you a dirty look when you miss but she took it to a new level by abandoning him and going where the action was.

We tried getting her bred to Ron Bischkes Buddy in Lethbridge but she would have none of it putting a 75 pound male on his back by the throat if he persisted. Although AI might have been a solution to preserve the last Goldenghost f t dog I took her resistance to being bred as a sign that perhaps it was not meant to be and I didn't want to risk losing my sons best buddy for the sake of making puppies.
Greeted everyone at the door with a wagging tail and looking for attention she ruled the house. Couldnt get a better robotic vacuum if you tried as she worked 24 hours a day on wet or dry spills without ever needing a charge. Neato and Ibot had nothing on her.
Layed her head on my lap whenever she needed something be it food water or to go outside. thinking lately she came to me to fix what must have been a lot of discomfort and it was truly difficult to fix that.
Only took a box of Kleenex for this big tough squarehead to get to and from the vets office.

Sorry to hear that Rob, I can recall how friendly Marley was and how she'd always be sure to get her allotment of attention when I was over. She enjoyed a great home at your place, it was dog heaven to begin with.

Sorry for your loss Rob, it's always a tough to face that inevitable day ... If there is anything to this reincarnation thing... I'm pretty sure I would be very happy coming back as Rob and his family's dog.

All you can do is appreciate & remember the time you had with her, and take it as some form of a blessing in your family's life. Which it sounds like it certainly was. She was lucky to have a family that let her do what she loved to do the most, that is about all they really ask of us. What more could a dog ask for.

Default Sad times

Sorry for your loss Rob. She was always there to meet me whenever I knocked on your door. As much as you warned me about her being a "cling-on" as soon as some one petted her, there was no way you could ever refuse recognizing that welcoming character and wagging tail! I am sure she will be missed by many.

So sorry for your loss.
From your story she was an amazing dog, who can now chase those ducks forever.
