Default 2016 EcoBoost first trailering trip.

First 'real' trailer test with the 2016 Lariat ccab. I went to Lodgepole yesterday pulling a 20' car hauler, brought back ~2400 lbs of loader tires. On the way there bucking the wind, then back to Camrose about 600 km I used 90L of fuel. From Camrose home, 200 km it was 13.5/100, filled in wainwright and did the math. Posted highway speed only. I was very nervous about using the ecopoof because the trailer pulls heavy, and the springs are extremely soft. I had planned on using the 03 7.3 but tried this one. I was quite surprised, it handled it like there was nothing behind. There was next to zero wind drag, and not a lot of weight I would guess 6000 lbs loaded, snow, ice, tires. I was very impressed with the truck, for light loads it was great. Airbags would be a better idea for anything heavier. I was able to put most of the weight closer to the back of the trailer, keeping hitch weight less but balanced well. Color me impressed.

I'm looking to replace my 2015 F350 diesel this summer and have been reluctantly considering an ecoboost. All I pull these days is a 6000# holiday trailer so the diesel is a little overkill although I sure like it. Your comments help push me that way.

Bought my wife a 2016 3.5 eco this summer, it blows away my 2017 5.0. Really wish I would have test drove a 3.5, they are awesome! My next half ton will be the 3.5 ecoboost for sure. Wish they would turbo the 5.0 as an option...

I had a 2018 diesel demo for a week. I liked it but the price was insane.

We bought a 2016 Eco boost for my wife. Uses it to take the kids to horse shows. Decent size trailer; gooseneck with living quarters. Trailer plus two horses it pulls it fine. Think I will put air bags on this spring as it squats a bit much but not to bad. Daily driver other than that and has been trouble free.

Please let me know what you think of it after you add the airbags Beeman. I am on the fence, this truck is basically the sunday and trip special, I hardly use it. I have had it 3 years and only 49km on it. The 09 4.6 is the DD, basically my idgaf truck, 320km and just keep piling it on.
2016 cost me $65,000 and 09 was $4500, I drive the 09 95% more than the 16 go figure.

Love my 2018 Ecoboost. My first Ford and really impressed with it. Handles the weight nice and lots of power. I’ve only pulled a smaller 14’ trailer with atvs on it and that’s nothing for it. You do notice the gas mileage dropping with the trailer but it’s to be expected and I don’t tow often.

decent load. I would guess the trailer at ~3500lbs and tires ~2400

I put the air lift ride control air bags on my 2018, good for 2000#'s load leveling.
I wouldn't be without them!
install was a hour and a half ish, very simple.
I pull a 20' enclosed sled trailer with lots of tongue weight, heater, batterys, propane, toolboxes and it levels it out perfect with 40# of air and makes the truck ride great, trailer is probably around 5-6K loaded with a couple sleds and gear, average 24-26l/100km down the highway to the mountains rounds trip

I did swap out the crappy factory shocks for Bilstein 6113 in front and 5100 in rear with 2” of lift in front and 1.5” in rear, then a slightly larger tire on.

Airbags going in this next week...just sitting here waiting

2017 F150 3.5 Ecoboost, pull my 10,000# boat to Kitimat last year and was pleasantly surprised. No shortage of power but at 25-30 Ltrs/100km. That was pushing it fairly hard. I found it worked better when I run the transmission in manual and was on the shifts rather than let the rpms drop too low in automatic.
Added airbags with compressor and 275-65/20’s, 10 ply rubber. More of a heavier half ton now. Great combination, pulls and carries well.. Very Happy with it!

Pretty much the same truck I have. Got the 2018 crew cab 3.5 eco boost with max tow. Towing my 20’ travel trailer it’s like it isn’t even there. Mileage does drop some but is still better towing with the eco boost than towing with my 5.4v8. Got it in June last year and have about 7400 miles on it.

Just want to join in and give some love for my 17’ eco boost, absolutely love it. I don’t tow much at all but it’s great. Rolling empty and at the speed limit, I was able to get my mileage right around 10L/100km. This is the same mileage I used to get in my Pontiac sunfire!!

Only thing is that the dealer unhooked my block heater for a recall...... first time in 2.5 years it gave me any trouble was a week later. Waiting on ford for an answer... winter with no block heater!?

They do drive nice. Id stay away from any programmers though. Not seeing much for reliability out of them once tuned.

Buddy had an 11, that we installed catless downpipes, with a custom tune from mpt. That truck was an absolute beast from a boosted launch. Little over a year and the timing components/rod bearings started developing issues.

Another buddies 15 window'd the block with a tune.

Great stock though!

I just got a recall letter from FORD dealing with the block heater issue. Same old poor sealing can cause leakage resulting in the potential for a fire etc... Sucks that I have to take it in but they admitted an issue and are fixing it for free. I give them props for that! Back to the recall, until I get it into the dealer they just said don't use the block heater... Glad I have 2 other trucks as it was -34C this morning.

Looking at getting a newer Ford F-150. Just trying to pick the right engine a 2.7, 3.5 Ecoboost or the 5liter V8?? It will be used mainly as a daily driver, with the occasional towing. Got a 18’ toy hauler fully loaded it’s about 6000lbs.

Watched a few tests online and seems to be a negligible difference between the 3.5 turbo and 5.0L coyote....you like the rumble of the V8 or the turbo? Quite a bit more torque with the eco boost.

I narrowed it down to between the 3.5 and 5L. I tend to keep my trucks till the wheels fall off... so witch one is the more dependable engine the 3.5 or 5L?

I have a 2016 with the 3.5L eco.
It is the best truck I have ever owned. Out performed the Ram I previously owned by a country mile. Very impressed what you get for the money with these F150's.
When not pulling anything and driving it like a law abiding citizen, I am getting sub 10L/100km on the highway.
I only pull things in the summer which is either my boat or my 28' ultralite trailer. It pulls my trailer like it's nothing. Went camping with some friends last year who have a 1 ton and trailer, and he was blown away how I walked away from him on the highway (and I don't tow like an idiot).
I am so impressed with it and will definitely get another one.

Just talking about dependability? I'd go 5.0L by a narrow margin, mostly due to lack of turbo. The 5.0L is a good design, have seen multiple with over 300K and no major engine issues.
The 3.5L had some turbo issues in the past, mostly ironed out but not completely.
Performance though is gonna be vastly different, the 5.0L can feel like a dog when pulling.

Your best bet is to join the F150 forums online. 5.0 has had a terrible past few years, dropping cylinders. My son had a 12 that dropped cylinder 8. He is a sucker for punishment apparently, traded it in on a 15 5.0.
The early 3.5 ecos were having serious trouble too but they seem to have sorted it out in 15 and up.
I question the last reply on pulling, check out the numbers of the 5.0 and the 3.5 under boost. The little twin hairdryers put out quite amazing power with a load behind. Dont be fooled by the sound of the eco engine in the cab though, it is actually coming through the radio. True fact.

I've been checking into the 2019s. Seems if you want the 3.5 Ecoboost with 450 horsepower, it's only available in the Raptor or the Limited. I guess it's somewhat of a ploy as otherwise, the Limited might not sell as well if there were cheaper options with the same engine choice.

I've got a 13 Ecoboost. Empty it gets great milage. Load it up or put a trailer behind it and Im down into the single digits. Lots of power, but I would never buy another one.

I have a 2017 3.5 eco sport with max tow package.

I had a 2013 3.5 eco as well. Before that, I had a 2010 5.8l V8. In the 2017, the 10 speed transmission and more horsepower makes that thing nuts.

In sport mode it’s like a rocket. Towing, I’ve got a 28 foot travel trailer that fully loaded is somewhere around 7500lbs. It does squat the back end a bit with equalizer bars on. I put stiffer duratracs on and that has improved towing. In a strong cross wind I definitely feel the trailer moving the lighter truck around. That said, there’s no shortage of power. I can be at the bottom of Scott Lake Hill on the transcanada heading west doing 110, and if I stomp on it with a fully loaded trailer I can be passing someone doing 120km easily.

Driving around town as a daily driver the mileage is great. When towing you definitely pay for the fuel, but I’m super happy with the truck. Only issue I have is just recently I get a loud rattle when I cold start the truck so that will be going in for warranty in the next week or so.

Big difference now with the 10 speed auto, shifts nice always lots of power. I do think the Gen II ecoboosts are probably better since they addressed the issues the previous one had...carbon build up and turbo reliability

Used the ecopoof again yesterday, towed my 18' tandem carhauler loaded with 8,12,16' 2x6's. Avg 13.1L/100km on the way there, 11 on the way back empty. I just can not complain about this little truck at all.

Have 13 F150 ecoboost, with 100,000 km. Zero issues. Average 12.0 l/100km. Pulling 4000 load 16L/100km. Excellent truck. Was GMC/Chevy guy originally, however last few been Ford. Feels like home....
