Default someone wants to buy or licence my whale youtube video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRHO9iAODQk

I received two emails through youtube from two different sources saying they want to buy or licence my video.

Has anyone seen this before? I am thinking it may be some kind of scam.

Awesome video!

Never heard of people offering to buy videos. I'd just ignore it personally.

Just a thought - If the video were to ever go viral, which isn't a huge stretch, people seem to like whales. You would get ad revenue from google (youtube, so long as you sign up for the ad account). If you sell it or license it, you will obviously get less.

Not sure how that works. I can't see a video making much money. That being said if it paid for a trip to catch GT's off Christmas Island... I am all over that!

Seems to have got 4000 hits in one day. Likely just a fad.

4000 hits a day recently? That's pretty good numbers.

Could be a scam, or could be a couple of guys seeing the potential you are talking about here. Lots of hits = $. Or could be someone with a business or a video or film project that simply wants to use the footage.

I'd contact them and see what they have to say. The moment they want you to send them any money, banking info, etc., turn tail and run. But if they are represented by a lawyer you can verify...

Good points.

Thanks

Looks like about 400 hits in just the past few hours.

Wicked video.
I know of a guy that was approach by YouTube and now gets paid per view on his series of videos he has.
Maybe it's something like that.

I'd pull it down before it goes viral and everyone has a copy.

Contact the people that want to license it and see what the deal is.

X2...

You can make real money doing this. People advertise beside your video and PAY MONEY to do it...there are kids who take videos and offer commentary to them playing video games....its turning into a legit business.

Google "Tobuscus" and see what I mean....I learned about this from the 11 and 15 year old kids we have

Good luck

Definitely put that YouTube content protector mentioned in the linked article on it, this could be your own money maker. Why let a middleman take a skim?

Stop to think of some other YouTube channels you've possibly seen and how these people manage and afford to create content that has definite production costs ( FPS Russia, anyone?). There's payback in them thar views!

Whale watching is a huge tourist attraction. It could be that someone wants to buy the rights to your video to promote their business. I'd do my homework to try to determine what your video my be worth in such a situation.

IMO.....Will it go viral? I doubt it, but someone is pretty interested in it at the moment. "Strike while the iron is hot" and "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush."

Great video and good luck!

Cool video I had the exact same thing happen off Prince Rupert with my dad on a fishing trip about 7 years ago. Got a few photo's of it just 3 feet from boat but no video. We were in a small bay not far from shore in 100 ft water .Lots of herring surfacing. Then we start to see a mass of bubbles breaking surface in a circle heading toward boat. It was a humpy's bubble net. Suddenly he broke surface with that big wide mouth maybe 15 feet from boat. Mad scramble to get the downriggers up. Then in a few seconds up he comes as gentle as can be and comes right up to boat. Real weird staring at that big eye looking at you just 4 feet away. He hung around for 2-3 minutes then slowly swam off

Cool. Over 7000 views and climbing. 9 emails asking to do a deal.

My expectations are low...but the experience is interesting and cool.

Funny. Badback has a video of me using a cordless drill to drill ice fishing holes. Over 30,000 views last I saw it.

I have a long ways to go to get to that even.

Default youtube $$$

Youtube will pay you for the adspace seen during the viewing of your vid, but you need to get really popular before making any significant cash. works out to be approx $7000 per million views. there is a sliding scale depending on how popular it is and the traffic it generates on a daily basis.

Don't sell your copyright/ownership. The fee you charge them will be based on what they're using the video for, how wide the audience is, for how long they want to use it, where on their site they want to use it, and what specific rights they're getting.

I doubt it. I have not done any deal. Maybe a different whale video?

What channel? you must be referring to the whale slap video.

Can't believe how calm you are. I would have been jumping out of my skin with excitement. That is awesome. If I had that happen I'd be a very happy man. Me's thinks it won't be long before you will be making an appearance on the news. Good luck

Get some money for that darn vid. Why not???
