You do know that when an officer detains you, or arrests you, or charges you, that you are still innocent until guilt is proven or you confess?
Even when it's obvious you are guilty.

That's how it's always been.

even if you are just given a ticket, only when you pay are you guilty.

With this new legislation, your license is suspended, and your vehicle is impounded with no trial. This legislation removes your right to a trial.

Dont follow national news?

A guy in Ontario was pulled out of his house after returning from the bottle depot, cops reasoning was he returned "too many empty's" so by default he must allways be drunk. Great Police work.

Recently a lady in BC was pulled out of her house after returning home and consuming some wine with her friends & family AFTER she had gotten home and was railroaded with an impaired charge just to be overturned because she simply wasn't driving drunk.

I have no problem checking someone out behind the wheel but these new laws just go too far, especially the 2 hr one. That law is ripe for exploitation and that's exactly what's going on.

I wish they would go after distracted drivers with the same vigor.

Distracted driving kills more people than impaired driving but get caught and you get a small fine and your on your way. It dosent make any sense.

So why do you care?

Do you drive while intoxicated?

I’m perplexed by people being upset with it.

Never in my life have I ever been stopped by the police.
And I’m 42 years old.

And even if I were to somehow get their attention while driving and they needed me to blow, I’d have no worries about losing my license or vehicle.

But if you do and they catch you, you got no one to blame but yourself.

I am absolutely shocked as to how easily people are willing to hand over their basic rights....to the point where they are good with "the odd person" being harassed, wrongly penalized and out of pocket for something they did not do.

UNBELIEVABLE

So what about the people who were not driving.....and forced to blow well after having driven. How can anyone be good with this?

Exactly! With the new laws, you don't have to drink and drive to be punished. Our government spends millions of dollars rehabilitating terrorists that murdered people, yet they don't care if innocent citizens are unjustly punished.

Good news,

I was just out in my neighbourhood and I didn’t see any roving bands of police officers, going door to door and forcing people to blow into a breathalyzer.

I guess my neighbourhood isn’t where they are working yet.

Does anyone know who I can complain to?

You would think that with this new legislation the cops would be out in full force.

Why aren’t the cops doing their jobs?

Have you seen them in your neighbourhood?

Or maybe the people that frequently get noticed by the cops are bringing it on themselves.

Unless you can explain another reason for why I have never had anything more than pleasantries, and have never been stopped whether walking or driving.
Hell I’ve never had a bad run in with a security officer.

I guess I must be doing something wrong.

Why don’t the cops notice me?

Exactly, it didn't happen to me, so it must not happen to anybody. It's okay to punish some innocent people in order to punish more guilty people.

What don’t I get?

That it’s not one or two people at any point in time who are driving around impaired.
That it’s likely hundreds if not thousands.

Because what is not gotten by a certain percentage of the population is that you shouldn’t drive intoxicated, but again many do.

So if people don’t get the message then maybe it’s time to stop *****footing around and really punish them.

The only people responsible for this legislation are the ones who forced them to do it.

Those would be the ones who don’t think of anyone else but themselves and continue to get behind the wheel.

Best way for people to protect their rights,
Is not to give them any reason to take them.

Now, if you have a better way of getting it through to the people in the shallow end, I’m sure it would go along way.

Right, innocent people are never convicted of crimes in Canada. Does the name Donald Marshall sound familiar? How about David Milgaard?

Pretty sad, that it isn't safe to answer the door, just because a person decides to have a few drinks in his own home.

You keep skirting the issue....How do you feel about this case in which I have provided a link for?

Is this acceptable?

Or how about people who can't blow such as the person in this next link?

Ok bleeding hearts.

Here’s a challenge for you.

Go talk with any mother that has lost their child, because of a drunk driver and tell them why you are against this legislation.

Explain how it’s affecting your rights.
Explain to her that the police have no right to enforce this legislation.

Go tell the cop that had to see her child dead in a wreck and arriving at her home at 3 am to explain that her child was never coming home, that he doesn’t have the right to do that as part of his job.

I would love to hear the response you might get.

I didn’t read in the article where it says that the police were conducting neighbourhood patrols and going door to door and this woman was found after two hours of being at a restaurant.

I’m sure if there was the internet would blow up about it.

You know like the FBI watching you through your camera on your computer.
Or that 1.2 million people are planning to storm Area 51 in September to see the aliens

Like wouldn’t that be everywhere on social media if that was the case?

And in today’s self absorbed lifestyle where everyone can complain about everything and it gets sensationalized on the internet and slanted not all facts given and fake media reports online fame it is always possible for people to overreact and believe the worst has come to pass.

Please, pull your heads from your online butts and actually take a look at the world around you.

And don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

Sigh.

Both of those links are global news. They have been topics on shows and other news outlets. They are two real examples of how this is a brutal legislation.

Again, you cant or won't try to grasp the gravity of the consequences explained in those cases...

Good night.

There used to be an organization called the "Brownshirts".
Read your history and see what that lead to. This smacks of that - we are going down the wrong road entirely.

Yet some people cheered these brown shirts on when they beat and murdered people, because they were supposedly doing it for the benefit of society.

I am sure the first people too sew the yellow star on their jackets and blouses ..said we are just following the law, what harm can possibly come from obeying the rules...

I talk to members of our national police force frequently and they seem quite happy that they are turning themselves into a paramilitary organization. They have access to all kinds of gear and equipment that used to be military only.
Kind of scary actually.
At least the members of the military have some kind of code of conduct and a set of rules of engagement.

A couple of years ago I found an expensive mountain bike someone stole stashed in some bushes behind a building I was doing work at in Calgary. I called the police and told them I found a $ 3000 or more bike. Asked them if they had a cruiser close by so they could pick it up. She asked where I was and said “ oh your close to a detachment , could you drop it off” I figured sure why not. So I loaded it up in my van and brought it to them. When I got there and brought the bike inside, I told them the cops what happened. The police officer behind the desk asked for my drivers license and asked me to have a seat. I didn’t question him because at that point I figured I was a good guy doing someone a favour by turning in a stolen expensive bike. 45 minutes later and a my face turning several shades of red with anger. I finally spoke up and said “ what the hell is going on” I need to get home why is this taking so long. The cop told me they were checking to see if there were any warrants for my arrest. I kind of lost it and told them is this how they treat a good semeritain. I was told to sit down and relax. I got my license back and told them to enjoy the bike. So the point is you are always going to be guilty of something if the police get involved until you prove that you are not. The constitution is their to protect people with the money to involve lawyers . I don’t trust the police anymore and avoid them as much as possible. We already live in a police state as far as I am concerned and individuals rights are not something that is of concern to the police or the system in Canada.

Relax. Everybody is checked for warrants. When a file is created at the detachment for each situation your involved in then your legal history pops up. How do you think they catch people with warrants? Sometimes people don’t even know there is a warrant out for them. A 45 min wait is pretty excessive though for a simple warrant check.

I’m relaxed now that I know how the system works. I might still drop a bike off but I won’t go inside. That’s bull****.
