Crappy deal Ken.

Glad nothing went sideways.

Purhaps the time has come that all of us take note of our surrounding going forward.

It's getting bad in our area to, hard to sleep at night since our nabour to the North of us was jumped by 3 masked clowns in the early early morning hours.

He darn near didn't survive.

Not one word on the news or nothing as the RCMP kept it hush hush.

They say they didn't want to worry the nabour folks and its under investigation at the moment.

4 months now and they still don't know nothing and aren't speaking now.

Sad indeed, not their fault, wish they at least informed the public.

Poor nabour took it bad and that's his reward for being a nice fellow that would help anyone who would find them selves down and out.

Sad for you Ken and family, sad for Canada that the system needs to do better. A lot better.

Don

Lots of people have an expensive habit that only theft can feed. Until this country deals with the drug problem it is only going to get worse. And I don't see that happening.

Glad to hear he's ok. Nothing he could of done in that situation even if he was packing. Hero's often turn into victims in the blink of an eye. That's a busy and well lit station too, scary. Same intersection as that shooter with the rifle in the intersection last year

Oh no kidding? I remember that, guy standing in the middle of the road. Same place! wow

Hero's turn into victims, that's the way to look at it for sure.

I would much much much rather have a living son than a dead hero.

You never know Ken, maybe karma will catch up with the perp. Maybe a 5' 7" punk may be hard to see at a dark unmarked crosswalk. Slippery streets and all.....
Really happy that the only casualty was a lighter wallet, your son made the absolute correct decision in that situation. Intelligence will trump bravado every time.

On a side note, it's only $300. Ottawa takes 40% of my money every year, and they don't even have a gun pointed at me.

I think the guy with the rifle was on 50th Street. Ken said this happened on Victoria trail. Then there was the bus driver who got his head stomped and lost an eye over in that area too. It's truly one of the worst area's in Edmonton aside from the core or 118 Ave.

You are 150% right, don't be a hero- hero usually dies first! Your son did the only right thing- handled the money to the robber. His life worth much more than $300.

Give your boy a huge hug and tell him he absolutely did the right thing. I was fortunate enough in my younger years to train under some very accomplished self defense instructors and spent 2 years in New York with the American Jiu-Jitsu Federation. We did a lot of community self defense classes and seminars for colleges. The number 1 rule was that there is no property or possession worth putting your life at risk. The flip side was, that once you believed the attacker meant to harm you, fight with every once of your strength and inflict as much damage as possible to ensure you have stopped the attack.

I am very happy that your son kept his cool and you should be very proud of him.

And there you have it. Different folks use different tools but the most effective one is between your ears.

Sometimes the crime is imported too.

Good to hear nobody got hurt in the robbery, that's the main thing.

Just horrible. I have always checked my surroundings for fear of what your son went through.

Glad your son was able to walk away. Got a 25 yr old one myself and don't know what I'd do if something happened to him.

Dollars can be replaced.

I just read the title....as an over protective and caring father I’m sorry to hear your son went through that and I’m glad he walked away. You did point out one other fact I probably would have left out. I don’t see things like others I guess, not to sound judgmental but it just my own perogitive.

I wonder what it would be like living in a city with a specialized team of a dozen or so cops that made perps like this.....how do you say it.... go missing??

The river is a pretty short drive from that gas station!

If he was a white or asian or chinese or eskimo or werewolf or vampire I still think it is important, in case someone from here goes to that particular Esso and the criminal is still at his favorite mobile ATM.

Don't chastise me for profiling, if black offends you it was not my intention.

If my life offends you, or it bothers you that I have shared some things, put me on the ignore list but if you 3 are just taking shots to take shots, shove them. Not the time for moronic comments. Thanks.

Thanks guys.

And thanks for the PM's, I appreciate it. Some tough stories, hard to think about and get through for sure.
