Was a great hunt. Killed on the 7th of 8 day hunt. We also took a 14 year old 38 from the same band. The one in the picture is 10 year old. 40x40 1/8 and 13 inch bases.

25-06,

That last set of pics of Dall sheep you posted a couple of pages ago has got to be on the Mirror lake ridge, right? If so I have flown over that exact spot a dozen times this year for work. We took a couple of rams not far from there this summer.

I have never heard of mirror lake ridge, the one ram is in the front range of stans in the canyons and the other ram is in the back end

Yep, that's the area. Mirror Lake is the lake on the bottom of eastern slope of the east side ridge of carcajou canyon.

Either way, its a nice area. and those are beauty rams!

Default not a ram..yet

since this thread is titled "2012 sheep thread, not 2012 ram thread, ill post my story up as well.
so over the past year ive been planning on doing a sheep hunt in the willmore, and finally got my chance this fall. after a bunch of research, a lot more time in the gym, and talking to some experienced friends i managed to get my first sheep. my wife (who has all the backpacking experience, i have none) and i went on a scouting trip in july, went in about 20 km and spotted a few ewes, which we were ecstatic about seeing. i originally wanted to some day do a solo hunt but my wife didn't want me to go alone so both her and i went in for the opener on sept 11. we were in for 8 days and a bad storm on opening day seemed to put all the wildlife on hold. over the trip we spotted a couple goats, had a couple non legal rams stop broadside @ 150 yds on a ridgetop (which made the entire trip worth it, just that experience alone!), and a small herd of ewes on the last day which just didn't work out. so on the drive home after a week in the bush my wife said "well, why don't you go back in in a couple weeks" AWESOME! haha so i went in for 3 days on a solo trip and dropped my ewe about 12km in on the second day. i spotted her about 500 yds up above me, but she spotted me twice on my way up and i thought for sure i had blew it. but patience paid off and i managed to sorta sneek up behind her for an easy 200 yd shot. the pack out was by far the hardest thing ive done, period. it was a little over 2/3rds of my body weight, and i don't know how some of you do it with a 70lb ram head on top of all that

anyways, heres some pics of the hunt. its not near as impressive as some of the monsters that you guys have posted, but i am by far the happiest sheep hunter in the province! i'm hooked!

also a big thanks to all you who posted any sheep or gear advice on here, it was a huge help

Very Nice, Fastpass!

A true sheep hunt.

How does it taste? Is Ewe meat any good?

Oh man, Riel, I'm kind of reluctant to look up at that hill these days. What a Tease it can be! Beautiful ram.

Ya, I think it's a little less gamey then deer, and it marinated for a day it's really good. Mind you, I think anything you pack out on your back will taste better!

Congrats fast pass.....great story and pics. You earned that ewe just as you would a ram.....very nice!!
Nothing like spending time in those hills!!
I have to ask though, was your pack out comfortable? Your pack looks like it may have been loose at your shoulders. Just inquiring....not a criticism.
Thanks for posting it up!!!
