Default Red deer river goldeyes

How long do the goldeyes hang around the Red Deer area in the river. Do they migrate out of the area in the fall, or can you still catch them late in the season? Thanks.

I used to catch them until mid/late October. Very rare in November depending when the cold hits.

I’d imagine you can catch them right until ice up. And maybe even after

Really not sure the migration east to their traditional overwintering grounds is as prominent as it used to be.

Goldeye numbers in Saskatchewan are a fraction of what they used to be. And yet I have trouble keeping them off my hook in Alberta. Migrational barriers perhaps? (Dams/ Reservoirs)

Have to go to Red Deer this weekend. Wife’s coming along, and wants to catch her first goldeye. Has anybody been out around town this week. How’s the fishing been? Thanks very much!

Float a number 8 or 10 snell with a red piece of yarn and you should be able to get into a few Rocky Mtn Whitefish as well.
