Default Take care of yourselves, boys!

I learned yesterday that a casual acquaintance died on Monday evening from a massive heart attack. He was 41 years old. He was heavy-set, but didn't stand out as obese; and it was very sad that he passed at a time of year that is so significant to so many. Just a reminder to keep yourselves in shape and as healthy as you can.

I know several people that suffered heart attacks in their 30s or early 40s. Some were not overweight, and didn't smoke, but the majority were one or the other, and a good percentage were both.

More than exercise matters- about ten years ago one of the healthiest men I'd ever known died of a massive heart attack while on a hunt in SA. He was only 38. He never drank or smoked, liked to swim every day, was the healthiest guy I knew. But because he was so healthy he never went near a doctors office, if he had he would've found out he had major issues brewing that could've been treated, instead he left a young son and wife behind...
Don't be afraid to go see a doctor and get regular checkups- finding things when there still minor can have major affects on your life.

Had an uncle (inlaw?) that had a heart attack in his 40's. He was a chronic jogger, non-smoker and in excellent shape.

Don't get stressed out, enjoy life, and savour every day. And don't forget to laugh.

Stress really is a silent killer. ^

Treating stress with smoking, drinking, drugs, or whatever is even worse.

Laughter is contagious and part of the reason I visit this forum. Really.

I miss the days of sitting around and laughing with my teammates.
We kept each other in stitches and I know it added several years to my life.

Have a chuckle every day. If you can..

In my entire family tree, there was only one person to have a heart attack. So I'm thankful it's not a common occurance.

I had a physical this week in preparation for surgery.
My Dr. exclaimed I am a healthy 43 year old man!

If my mornings are any indication, I already knew that

A few years ago I had a friend, 40 years old and truly fit as a fiddle.
Ate healthy, weight in check and worked out at the gym twice a week.
Because of very good career decision early in his life he did not want for money.
(although Edmonton born many of the special effects in James Cameron movies were his in the last 15 years).
Anyhoo, moved back to Edmonton and just 'cause he loved the 'coffee scene' he got a part time job at a well know cafe.
One day when it was real warm he wore sandals into work. A worker on a previous shift had dropped a paring knife on the floor, and didn't pick it up (excuse was he was 'too busy').
My friend drove his foot into (it was wedge in spot where it couldn't be seen).
Six weeks later he died from the resulting blood infection...4 days after he married.
It taught me one thing. Don't ever put off something you want to do because it will be easier when you are older...or you won't have to put it on credit....or whatever.
Do what you love now because there are just no guarantees that there will be a tomorrrow.
