Blackie Down
I took my 8 yo son out to a little bear haven yesterday. Spotted this guy at a fork in the road. The way he mozied off led me to believe he wasn't going too far. The right hand of the fork was where he was heading. A little windicator powder confirmed that would be the best place to approach from anyways. We jumped out, loaded the rifle and took off after it. He was about 150 yards +- away when he ran.
Good partner..... check
Wind...... check
Good bear? TBD
I figured with him being a little spooky I would leave the bow in the truck as I didn't have the element of surprise anymore. Bad decision.
Got up to where I thought he would be and low and behold the stinker was sitting on his behind in the bush not 30 yards away- totally unconcerned that the top of the food chain was staring at him eyeball to eyeball. 300magman texted me last night and hit the nail on the head, "arrogance cost him dearly". He then proceeded to lay down flat and looked up at me rather innocently. I determined him to be a shooter at that point and instructed my lifelong hunting partner to plug his ears. I waited for Somkey to lift that head and give me a window to his boiler room. He complied and I tickled his heart and lungs with 130 grains of Hornady delight. He never got up.
The GoPro was rolling and will make some great footage for posting at a later date when I have a couple hrs to put it together. I may post the raw footage soon as it was a fun stalk and worthy of sharing.
I'm wishing I had the Bowtech in hand for this one, however very thankful to have encountered him regardless of weapon. His coat is beautiful and that blaze was icing on the cake.

Extra sweet to have yer huntin' pard with you! He looks like he was fully prepared to back you up! What you shoot him with? And what's the mark on his paw? Is that a wound from a pass through?

Thanks! The blood on the left paw is trickle down from his lethal wound. That right paw is a mystery to me. I found him like that and don't know how he got that cut. Perhaps a fight with another bruin. I hate posting pics with blood but didn't have the means to clean that paw properly.

Hey, nothing wrong with a little blood. You killed clean, and there is no obvious gore. I think we all know that he didn't keel over of natural causes!
Mind you, it is a natural thing for us to take an animal like that.

Nice job, especially with your fine lookin pardner in tow!
From reading the foolishness on some forums, you'd be surprised a 270 could penetrate the hide

WOW! Thats a beautiful bear Tyler. Big with a great coat. I see very little rubbing at all. He looks like a six footer.
Congrats to both you and your sidekick. I know you have worked hard for this magnificent bruin.
This gives you the rest of the weekend off to take your partner fishing. lol

Now that's a great hunt!
It's hard to know what memories are going to stick with a boy for his entire life, but I'm betting that's going to be one of them...
Thanks for posting and Congratulations on a very nice bear!

Good job Tyler, congrats to you both.
No sign of "Him" at my bait yet, maybe when I check next.
My spring will be taking me in a different direction in a few days.
I'll text you on that, congrats again.

Awesome Bear, Awesome Hunt and all shared with your Son...can't get any better.
Strange behavior with the bear staying put and even laying down for you. Did you note any aggression?

Negative on the aggression. Was acting like a lazy dog. Not once did I feel threatened in any way by this guy.
Bear whisperer?!!!
