What amazes me is that the Penguins are in the final and they're still missing Letang (their top D-man), Schultz (his "replacement") just got back, and they still have a few key players out. It's a reflection of great coaching and great adaptability to use their players to best effect. After losing to the Sens in that blowout loss, they never looked back - they adjusted, kicked them in the teeth (worse) and ended up winning the series.

Malkin has been a beast in the playoffs and Crosby has been very good playing against the top D-men in each series.

They're missing key players, that's for sure. But it's easier to deal with when you have Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Murray and Fleury. Malkin dominated!

Playoffs have been exciting and unpredictable. I'm in a bracket where you had to predict every round, including the champion, prior to the start of the playoffs. Ten guys in our group.

No one predicted that Preds would make it to the 3rd round.
No one predicted that Sens would make it to the 3rd round.
Six guys predicted that Ducks would make it to the 3rd round.
Three guys predicted that Penguins would make the 3rd round.

No one had the Preds in the final.
Two guys had the Pens making the final.

The common thought was Ducks/Hawks battling it out in the west and the Rangers/Caps in the east. The Pens are proving the adherents of the 'too much hockey' theory to be wrong.

Should be a great final. Bonus that it's in eastern time zone.

Fleury hadn't played regularly in weeks (months?). Then Murray came back in after missing weeks due to injury, so it's not like they had two well-prepped goalies. Fleury was coming in rusty and Murray came back from injury so he was definitely a risk.

Crosby and Malkin are definitely a fantastic 1-2 punch (two separate lines so you can't hold them both in check easily) but still, Crosby lost his regular winger to injury so adding in someone new isn't easy. They've constantly juggled their lineups to deal with injuries.

And losing their top two D-men? That's BRUTAL. Can you imagine how far the Senators would've gone without Karlsson (he's just ONE top D-man)...?

My off hand guess at the beginning of the year was a Preds v Panthers final, so one half of my guess was horribly wrong, but now I'm definitely rooting for Nashville.

Well, called that one from start to finish. While the WAY the Pens won wasn't what I expected (Rinne was horrible for two games - very uncharacteristic), Sid had a great final series and the Penguins showed a lot of character to win.

They'll be stronger next year....unless they lose their starting goalie and are missing another #1 to back him up. That's really what saved them this year - they had two #1 goalies so they had strong netminding no matter what.

Anaheim, by comparison, lost Gibson and didn't have a hope.

Had $50 on Preds to win with some friends... gah. Was hoping for Sens to pull through in game 7 during their series but they still did pretty good in this playoff run. Hoping next year though there'll be a Canadian team in the finals.
