Newbie here looking for some tips for fishing the North Saskatchewan river within Edmonton. I Have been there a few times and had no luck. Any tips on spots to try or lures to use would be greatly appreciated.

Default NSR Tips.

My best tip for fishing the NSR is find an area where something breaks the current. Whether its some rocks sticking out, a log jam on a side channel, etc etc. Those areas are where fish will hang out to get out of the main current.

Also, small baitfish usually school up in slack water behind current obstructions because they can actually swim properly instead of getting tossed around in the current.

You have no idea how many time I've just been biking along the river, see a little eddy created by a current obstruction, and tossed a little 3" twister tail grub in there and caught a walleye within 3 or 4 casts. Walleye also like deeper water, so also look for sharp bends in the river. The current will carve out the sides of the banks inside the bend and big walleye are notorious for lurking those deeper pools.

A good tip for inside the city is also try and find where major storm drain outflows are. When it rains hard the outflow will dig out a nice area below it which creates a nice pool. Good pike fishing around outflows.
