Default “Beware of the one gun hunter”

Interesting article. I’ve followed Joe Bishop in Boddington’s writing for years.

Amazing that even the greats like Boddington can show such humility.

I dunno about the one gun hunter but I've seen guys who make remarkable shots and kill stuff regardless whether it's the one gun they hunt with or a gun they borrowed and never fired before. Seen guys who use only one gun to hunt with for decades and can't hit critters standing dead still at 100 yds. Some have it and some don't..... I wish I did.

One of the best guys I have ever met
Any question you have
He will do his best to answer it
The way he wrote that article is exactly how he is in real life
He would never claim to be the best
He would say that hes just a fortunate guy

I am a BIG Boddington fan. One of the few gun writers that has real integrity. He has done a ton of hunting and almost all of it on his own dime, paid for with what he earns writing articles and books. He refuses to solicit free hunts in return for a write up and he has turned down many "sponsorship" offers. That was truly rare thirty years ago, probably a one of in today's world. Never had the opportunity to meet the man in person but have been reading his stuff for decades.

I'm a 1 gun game hunter,,, pretty hard to use the extras when my hands are full. Ha

There are lots of folks in our group that fit this category,,, 1 gun,,,1 boolit,,, and learn the trajectory of where it might land at distance,,, hopefully that is...

The nice thing about doing the Americas is that we can come pretty close to finding the cartridge that could fill these needs...

I'm Sloooooowly scaling into my predator control along with limited substance critters with a bit of shooting range time... I don't need the larger land canon 80 to 90% of the time,,, but when it happens,,, I have the option to run hot and mid- heavy...

I only hope my new build fits these needs,,, of course I have a backup plan B incase its needed...

Yuppers,,, the old school Ought-6 will be on stand by this season fore sure...

👍

Great article Chuck. Too bad that Joe lost his battle with cancer this past January.

It absolutely is. For those interested he is featured in this book, Volume 5.

You will have to pay for the book. Though I doubt his modest collection is nowhere near what you two have amassed.

I've met him. Had him sign the books I purchased at his booth at SCI 2017. Quite a humble man. Very outgoing. Amazing thing, as I stood in line, waiting my turn, people he had met at shows went up to him and said that they had talked before at such and such a place. He would then ask things like "How is your son doing? Did he get over his leukemia? I hope he liked my book." Amazing. He may not have remembered the name, but it seemed he remembered the face and what they had talked about. He is getting pretty hard of hearing. Too much time in the military in combat zones (combat pay helped finance a lot of his hunts) and being around big bore rifles without hearing protection has taken a toll. All in all, I have even more respect for him. He can hunt with me, or sit around a fire with me any day he wants.

BTW, his daughter, Brittany, is drop dead gorgeous. I'm not a redhead fan, but if I was unmarried and about 30 years old, I could change.

You're not seeing the whole room. Nor did anyone say that is a photo of Boddington's trophy room.

He has written that he does not have room left in his house. If he gets something exceptional, or is of great interest to him recently, he will place it in his house. I'm not sure what he does with the trophies he removes to make way for the new stuff? He has a home in Paso Robles, California and a farm in Kansas. That probably helps the space issue.

I knew that. There was no chance of me being 30 again either, so I'm not worried.

And why the hate for Eva Shockey?

Exactly
I did
The library idea is cool
The 4 sheep in the pic are awesome
(Lifetime accomplishment for 99.9% of hunters)
But If it’s his place.. where’s all the argali’s?
All of those African animals dont cost as much as 1 of those Mongolian argali

This is not his only room, I’m not posting photos of a book I paid for and is copyrighted, you want to know where the argali are and yet it clearly states in the article he was a pioneer world sheep slammer. You asked about ibex, the article includes that. Joe is featured in two volumes of the above book for good reason. He has one of the finest firearms collections in the world, but has killed a great percentage of his game with one rifle. It is what it is. Belittling his a accomplishments probably isn’t necessary and is a touch off putting.

If I remember correctly, Boddingtons dad was pretty much a one gun man. Pre 64 Winchester Feather Weight stocked by Joe Bishop if memory serves.

You talk about these people like you know them
Which I highly doubt
And if you did meet them once
I guarantee it was only once
Usually guys like “joe” and “Craig” are the most humble people you would ever meet. You would have to really sweet talk them to take any sort of picture of their trophy rooms. They aren’t braggers.
Guys like you, don’t mesh with guys like them

I’m not here to argue
You can worship all your books and what everyone else has done or does
Good for you
The trophies these guys have taken, you couldn’t do even if you won the lotto max.
I have immense respect for their accomplishments but i respect people like Craig even more because of the person that he is
You should take some notes
