Default Bears are out in athabasca area

Just checked my bait tonight and had 4 different bears on camera. 2 nice bears shooters.

Anyone else having any luck...we are going out again tomorrow night for an evening hunt. We topped up our bait tonight with beaver and oats. Any advise we are newer to bear hunting.

Thanks

Advice? Don't tell everyone where the bears are. Nothing like a traffic jam on the way to your bait.

Tracks count? Saw some really nice tracks, but the camera picked that particular moment to malfunction. I don't think it will be long now . Planning on heading to Athabaska, next week. Actually a little further.

From the sounds of it, no advice is needed.....you are having bears coming in and the bait you are using should work great. Are you spicing the oats up with anything....like grease or molases. If not, I would recommend that. Once you start consistently hunting your baits, I would limit what you are bringing in so that your barrels aren't plump full every day which allows the bears to come and go as they please all day long. Add a little bit each time you go in to sit and bang a couple of buckets together......like a dinner bell and pretty soon the bears will know that if they want anything out of the dinner bowl, they had better get in there before their competition gets in to eat it before they do. Good luck and look forward to seeing some pics......Marco

Yes i been adding used veg oil mixed with the oats....I'm going to limit the amount of bait i put out now since we have bears coming around. Last night we sat for 4 hours saw 2 bears but i wasnt dressed warm enough....lol i was freezing and got out a little to early. Bears we saw were just small guys so we passed them up.

We are only going to the stands on the weekends so this is what we been putting out for bait tell me what u think...

1 beaver a week with about 50-100lbs of oats mixed with oil....when we sit on the weekends should we do anything particular??

Thanks everyone

Let us go a little north of Athabasca to the backroad from Marten River to Grouard on Lesser Slave Lake.

I am a hunter, but not into bears, unless I have to.

It has been a long winter and the bears are out. By golly are they ever out, and they are hungry.

Here is my tip, from a non bear hunting hunter.

Best wishes.
