Default Anyone new to bowhunting....

We just put up our 14th podcast episode. We interviewed a local bowhunter named Brian Struthers, who's been killing critters with a bow for a long time.

Brian works part time at Calgary Archery Center and full time for the national distributor for PSE bows. He's also been involved in the archery part of the Alberta Winter Games, and past president of the Alberta Archery Association.

We chatted about what a new bowhunter should know about gear, techniques, tactics, practice, etc.
Brian's a great guy too.

As always, it's a FREE download. On Itunes, Google Play, or
www.highlanderhunting.podbean.com

Cheers.
John

Glad you like it. I've known Brian for about 5 years and he knows his stuff.

The podcast had a lot of great tips for someone new to bowhunting like myself. There are other good hunting podcasts but are mostly American, so it's nice to hear a podcast from from hunters based out of Calgary. You have a new subscriber.

Me too.

I bought a lightly used Darton 2800 last year off a friend that had it since new. I have no idea where to start and to be honest find it kind of intimidating.

Buddy I bought it off felt the same way and I'm not sure it's ever been shot.

Awesome man! My best recommendation is find a local shop that you get a good vibe off of and ask as many questions as they let you. The good shops are more then accommodating as per my experience. Grab yourself a target and start letting them fly! Shooter beware.... you'll be hooked in a heartbeat.

Darton's are excellent bows and very easy to set up and tune. I do not profess to be an expert, but if you are in the Edmonton and need a hand with set-up, send me a PM.

Thanks, first year here too. Been practicing a lot and scouting like crazy. Patterned some great deer. But everything I read or hear is usually American, or Eastern hunting. So this will be great. All the tips I can get will help. Cheers.

No problem- just did an interview with Terry Grant- the original Mantracker- he was full of great info.

Thanks for the offer. If I'm planning a trip down your way and have some free time I may take you up on that.

I've been told there is a guy up here in Fort McMurray that runs an archery business out of his garage. Currently playing telephone tag with him.

I'd like to figure things out and get the next year in practicing. If all goes well I might be to the spot where I feel comfortable enough to take it hunting next year.

Sounds great. but.....

A better option might be to go see Lawrence at Accurate Archery. It is a little ways up Hwy 43 but would be worth the trip. Lawrence is an "expert" at set-up and tuning and recently starting sell Darton bows. More importantly Lawrence has been shooting Darton bows for many years as his primary hunting bow.

We're glad people are finding the podcasts useful. Any comments or criticism send our way:
highlanderhuntingpodcast@gmail.com

Mike and myself went out to a mule deer spot we know of last night. Looking out for bucks. Saw a nice black bear about 1100 yards out, a handful of does and fawns. 2 little bucks walked fairly close by us but saw us. Had a clear view of one little forked buck 85 yards out. He was a little too small and too far for a shot.

But a great night out with the bows. Lots of time left.......
cheers
John
