Default Marlin lever or Win?

Which is better? Win's 94 is the original but has Marlin improved it? I won't mention the Mossberg. It was not a great firearm.

Marlin.
1 screw and you can remove the bolt and get at the internals much easier that way.

Marlin all the way. Barring a few problem years the Marlin functioned better, had true side eject, and are easier to scope. The receivers are still made of real steel, and I believe have the advantage in accuracy. And directly compared to the 94, the 336 and 336 based 1895 contained bigger, heavy game cartridges. I like the way they lock up, and I speculate that they are overall a stronger gun.

And as Dick said, they are much easier to clean.

Always liked that side ejection.

I prefer the Marlin as you can mount a scope if you need or wish. The price sometimes sways my opinion as well.

Marlin for sure. A much simpler action design which makes them easier to maintain and less prone to issues afield. And, they just feel right.

... pretty broad question ... packed both and neither let me down ... 94's made by usrac with angle eject are fine weapon's before the ugly crossbolt safety ... xtr's had very pleasing wood ... for me the only difference to me is feel and the 94 just feel's right ...

Have both, like both. Better is subjective. Marlin is easier to take apart to clean. Well built and slight edge in accuracy at 200+ yards,

Winchester has the advantage in handling and feel. They also tend to weigh less.

My two favourite levers are a Winchester 375 Big Bore and a Marlin 45-70.
