Default advice on pike fishing please

so I have never fished for pike in my life caught some by accident but never targeted them. im going to fish the SSR in med hat in a few days I baught a couple of sinking lures but not really sure how to use them correctly obviously I cast out and reel it in but is there a method I should be using to enhance the appeal of the lure to a pike and where should I cast into open water or along the margins ?? any advice would be great.

the set up I will be using is a Fox rear drag real on a shimano 2.75tc rod
with 15lb mainline on 2 small lures with trebles or pickerel rig with 3 oz lead and a leadcore 3foot shock leader

cheers Hammy

Well go buy a package of 6" inch steel leaders, I like the black ones, buy a bunch of spoons say #2 size, red and white, five of diamonds etc orange and silver, silver and blue are good colours too...then cast away

If there are plenty me around and they are hungry then you will catch em!

Good luck.

Pike usually run fairly shallow actually. They'll even hit surface lures with glee.

A popper let drift down, the pulled up current along a margin or seam where 2 flows meet will usually grab any pike hiding out. It requires you to wade out into the river of course, so you can't always deploy it, but when you can it tends to be effective.

You can also use jigs under bobbers, or shallow running crankbaits.

Yeah that will work. You would be surprised at what you will catch a pike with. Every winter I have at least one try to eat my fish camera. And as a kid I remember I caught one using a baked brown bean on a treble hook.

But spoons are my favorite lure for sure. 5 of diamonds and the red/white are the two best lures made.

Not much to add except swim baits, live bait rigs and spinner baits. As you can see from the previous posts you can catch pike on pretty well anything, I wouldn't get to concerned about trying to find the "best" lure.
