Default Boone & Crocket Reticle

Hi there,

I was just wondering who here has the Boone & Crocket reticle on there Leupolds? Has it actually helped for long distance shooting? I am just curious as it looks appealing but I was thinking if it would really help vs a basic duplex.

With my basic duplex at 300yards I have to just put the cross-hairs on the deers back, and at 400yards slightly higher... So really is it benefical?

Looking for thoughts and opinions,

Thanks!

I think the purpose of the B&C scope is like a range finder. If the deer fits into a certian dot then its at that range??

I may be wrong

i have one... in order to use the reticle you must first know the range, then you use the appropriate crosshair. being a leupold they have the ability to use the bottom post to crosshair as a rangefinder as well, this is explained in the manual that comes with it. i have a 4.5 - 14 on my 300 win shooting 150's out of it and it is very close on the range. i zero mine at 300, then the devision's are 400 500 550 600. i have actually shot it at those distances and it is less than 3" out on the vertical. keep in mind you have to test this on your rifle, you can't reasonably expect to put it on your rifle and and whack a deer at 600 yards.

I got the Boone and Crocket on my 300 WSM. I really like it. I am shooting 165 grs and zeroed for 200 yrs. useing the lowest horizontal line was I hit a turkey sized gong at 425 yrds First shot. Fired another one to make sure it was not all luck and I hit er again. Took me a few shots to get the vert post lined on the sheep gong at 550 yrds but got it and hit quite a few times in a row. I really like mine!

I've got the B&C reticle as well. IMHO, you can't go wrong with it, I REALLY like it.

It gives you a basic range finder, and with some practice to learn how it works with your gun, the ability to shoot very accurately from 100 to 500+ yds with little or no guesswork.

I'd be hard pressed to buy another scope that didn't have a B&C reticle.

I have a Leupold MKII with a LR Duplex on it......just has the 2 dots on the reticle and with my 7-08AI shooting 140gr at 2900ish the dots work very well for 300 and 400 yards....past that I can dial my turrets to play around a bit......

Very quick system and builds a lot of confidence. Had a first time shooter hitting an 8" gong at 300 with the LR duplex....no guessing involved.....

Default I love it

I have a VX L in 4.5-14x56 with the Varmint reticle. After setting it up with a 200yd zero, I drilled a coyote at 360yds relying entirely on the reticle. I can live with that. Biggest problem is a set of flip-ups cost $140+
