Default Trappers 2012/13

Last years trappers thread was an intresting thread with updates from all over the province. Post your count and throw in a bunch of pictures as well.

My partner and me plan to go in this week and get the Marten sets out, have about 50 boxs hung up last time we were out. Should have approx 75 sets out for next week. Hoping to pile up the marten, and Lynx later on. Get some bait sites going for Wolves in near future. Once the ice is safe, gonna try for some under ice Beaver as well.

Hope this guy will hang around for another month......

Iv never trapped but really want to get into it. For now all i can do is shoot. This is one target for the next few months. My goal is to make a blanket. Probably coyote and id love to be able to trap beaver and have a shaved beaver underside to it

Hope to caugth 100 yotes this year.

Early winter cut out my fall beaver trapping, now will wait until the ice is thicker.

Good lyxn sign so will be building a couple of new cubbies and getting the old ones built up for Dec 1. Also need to get some snowshoes for bait.

Good Trapping and stay safe

Thunder, how was that fur looking?
I won't be setting until the end of the month. Weather is wrecking my plans, was hoping to do a loop on the quad but with the ice under the snow right now may not get far with the hills. I don't have a sled so looks like I'll be trapping the roads. Marten may be hard to come by this year but I should get my cats

The fisher and the marten look good but first yotes where a little ruff. The last 4 have been better looking in the fur department. Every day that goes by now just helps with the fur.

Good luck and this year looks like it could be one of those years that if we wait too long to get started that the snow will be to deep. Was trying to get most the fur on the winter sales and not the May one, that is why the early start.

Well spent the day setting up Marten sets. Got 18 sets up. Lots of tracks so hoping next weeks check will be good. Also set some traps for weasel and a bunch of snare poles for squirrel. Sure was fun!

Only took a couple pics so far. Snared a couple. Playing with the foot traps and freezing/thawing has been wreaking havoc with them.

No good pics yet, me and 357xp spent last 2 days out on the line cutting trails and setting up. This last heavy snow really closed our trails, had to clear 15km that was really bad. Set a couple of beaver lodges and picked up one overnight, weighted just under 60 lbs. Lots of Marten bait now.

Not a whole lot of marten tracks, but seems to be crawling with lynx and otter as well. Have 60 sets going now so see what happens.
Ended up riding my little Tundra 150km round trip.

Now if only we could get a couple a friends to come in and help clean some more trail......

I am a resident trapper so I wait untill after hunting season before I set up any snares for coyotes and foxes. I also trap my land on the athabasca so I have to wait for freeze up in order to get there without having to take the long way around.
Once I get going I'll be sure to post some pics!

Heading out Friday for the first check, try to get some pics going.
It's a remote wilderness line + full time job makes for a fast
paced weekend.

Just got my trapping license this year and I'm just learning. Have caught three yotes so far. Just started middle of this week. 2 pups and one mangy Yote.

There's alot of deer in the creek area I'm snaring. Alot of my snares are bumped down or taken down the trail and off my snare support.

Are deer bumping my snares off? Am I in high risk of accidentally catching a deer? I'm using senneker Alberta power snares with 265lb BAD in areas that are really thick with deer. I have other snares with an L lock in other areas. All three yotes I've caught have been with the L lock snares. All three hadn't been in the snare long looking at the snare location and I shot all three to kill them.

I was checking my snares every morning about an hour after sunrise.

Any help is appreciated.

Also, caught a raccoon with my daughters a month ago. Gonna wait til spring then catch a bunch of them.

Must have some hot spots on your line, 60 sets and 14 marten that is just over 23% way to go Brian! I'm very happy with just over 13%. Now if the fur market will come through.
