Thank you, AOF for helping make my elk hunt sucessful
will it all went down just three days into the rifle season' and im finaly making the time to post it on here and send out thanks to the members who shared thier helpfull tips, THANK YOU, im not much of a writer but here goes,
it went down like this, after the first two days i was already tired of caring the .308 with the varmint barrell, heavy as lead but i love the rifle, just not the answer for caring, so i walked into bartons and walked out with a brand new rem 700 sps in 300 win mag, as some of you may remember last year i shot and lost two elk with the 25-06, i still hate myself for that, so i have the rifle to do the job, now i hand it over to my cuz because he eats sleeps and poops rifles. he hands it back to me and i fire one shot down rang at the target. dead on, the very next morn i get up and head out alone, after a half hr or so in the bush cow callin once in a while i hear something that i think might be a buggle but its far away and a little windy, so i stop callin and listen and 5 min or so he buggles again, this time i here it better and im sure its a buggle, so i cow called again, again he buggles and its gettin closer, my hearts poundin so hard im scared of heart attack, each time i wait about 5 mins and cow call, emediatly after the cow call each time he responds with a buggle, and each time its closer, i get into position in some woods where i have good vision but theres one spot where the bush is tight together,
he ends up coming in right were this tight woods is and lets out a buggle, hes 60/70 yards away and i can't even catch a glimps of him, i do not dare call again just wait and see if he will come threw these tight woods, in the mean time a small calf comes out and walks within 3 yards of me so i can't move, im thinkin his mom has come in estrus and drove him away and now hes folowing her around, he finaly winds me and leaves, shortly after the bull buggles again but to my dismay hes moved away from me so i tried to use some of the tips i gained from members and i also read online, i walked 2 3rds of the way where i thought i heard the buggle and tried cow calling but each time i made this move, 3 or 4 times he was getting further and further away, so finaly i decided to go strait to where i heard him buggle each time, and when i got there i would cow call and i could tell by his buggles i was gaining on him, after about 3 or 4 more moves to where the buggle was coming from im prety close to him and im scanning the woods and see something move, its a cow, i look around some more and there he is, standing high on a ridge and there with him are 2 more cows, i raise the 300, breath, look for the vitals and squeeze, threw the lense i see him fall but he tumbles down hill a bit into a spot where i cant see him, my adrenalin is justa pumpin as i put a rush on up hill and over weight to where he fell to see if it was going to take another shot to finish him, as i crest the hill winded as monica after a night in bills office i see him laying there, hes practicaly upside down, toung out , and no movement, im super happy as i look him over and realize my first ever harvested elk is a 5x6, i look at my phone and its 9:23 am, i send my cuz a text the word DONE, then i send him a pic of a dead bull, i give them my location and ther on the way, after a lot of chain sawing and tearing the guts out of my quad we finaly arive at the truck with my prise trophy and meat for the winter at 4 pm, special thanks to Don, cuz asa and uncle maurice for helping me get him out of ther and to all members who shared tips with me and help make this season a sucsess.
once i figure out how to put pics on here i will add a pic for all to see
thank,s again
Tyson
