Grizzly bear sighting along smoky river?
Earlier in the season my dad and I were hunting elk along the smoky river north of Debolt when one afternoon my dad was walking on a cutline and he heard some ruckus in the bush so he peered into the bush and seen what looked like the hump of a grizzly. It's head was down as it was rummaging and making quite a bit of noise. He seen it go under a spruce tree and lost sight of it... He swears it was a Grizzly and we discussed the event many times. I was unaware of a grizzly presence in that area however my dad had hunted since he was a kid and I doubt he would mistake an animal at roughly 80 yards into the bush. I am curious as to everyone's thoughts on this? Mistaken identity? Any other sightings by anyone in that area?

Grizzlies are in a lot more areas than most people realize. He was probably right.

About 15 yrs ago in the same area I came across grizzly tracks. I could put my boot inside them.

We see griz south of debolt along the simonette river so totally possible

A friend saw one today in Field BC. right buy her hostels.

I use to live a mile from the Little Smokey. I came across tracks along the river on 2 occasions. Also along the Goose River South East of Valleyview when hunting in the 80's. They're all over that country.

I've seen grizzlys near debolt in wmu 521 on Hutterite land on a few occasions they are around.

here Wed Trapper Gary saw Sow and 2 clubs 
go to bed already wonder how many Marten sets were ruined around here

I've seen a grizz sow and cub along the smoky southwest of watino.

Saw a griz by Newbrook. Might have been the same bear I ran into 2 years prior.
For anyone that knows the area, about 1.5km north of the townsite, on the cutline between McCormick's place and the Crown land.

100% without a doubt it was likely a grizz....
I have seen them along the white mud and SW of Falher as well as down the forestry trunk RD...

Been working near the Smokey all fall. Lots of elk, deer, and pigs. Although the landowners I've spoken with haven't seen one in years, it would be highly probably to have a small population in the area. God knows the wolves are already there.

There's been two g-bears shot in people's yards and one trapped south of Valleyview in the last two years, along with numerous sightings and trail camera pics. All in farmland and within 10 miles of highway 43.
Pine beetle folks claimed to be see a sow and cub on our ranch NE of Sturgeon lake.
Haven't seen pictures but a native I worked with told me he knew of two g-bears shot on or near the Sturgeon Lake reserve around 2009. Possibly the same ones that were seen on our place.
