Euro mounts in calgary
Any members know anyone willing to do euro mounts of elk/moose skulls in Calgary? I've done my own deer mounts but don't have a pot big enough pot for my elk or bil's moose. I'd prefer not to use a taxidermist as the cost is too much.

You could always go to a mechanic shop and see if they have a 45gal drum, just cut off the bottom 16". Just a thought.

They are both a pain in the butt to do. Find a guy with beetles.

I bought that turkey fryer at BP that was on for $59 to use for my elk, haven't had a chance to try it yet. There was a spot in Turner Valley I think for beetles but want north of $400....

Try andythehillbilly on here, he’s out of Bowden. Does them nicely at a great price. He’s done 2 elk for me and a deer for my buddy.

Not to derail, but has anyone ever tried to freeze their heads and then plunk them on a big ant hill in the summer?

I did this once with a bear skull. Had it picketed down to the ground with some rebar and a piece of wire. When I went to check it a couple days Later it was all gone!

If you are up for more options you could try what I tried.....
I did mine in a $12 plastic rubbermaid from Wal Mart that had a 120V hot water heater element in the side. Total cost was about $25 all in plus whatever 7 hours of power cost. Just cut notches as far as you can down the side and fill the empty space with rocks or bricks so that you use less water, tarp or plastic over the top, and it goes by pretty quick.
