Recurve String Length Question - 60" AMO
I have an older Bear Takedown 50#@28" 60" AMO recurve. Calgary Archery Centre put a new FastFlite 58" string on it for me.
I am reading online that it should be strung 4" less than the 60" AMO number so should be a 56" string. Did they set me up the wrong way with the 58" string?

I'm not sure if the brace height would need to be lower when using fast Flight
( no stretch) but AMO length from when I was building strings would be about 4", yes.
You can always twist it up, try twisting it up and see.
How old is the bow, BTW.
I would be hesitant to use fast flight on a Graying Michigan made Bear recurve, but I may be over thinking things.

It’s circa late 80s-early 90s from what I can gather online. The bow looks like it’s barely ever been used. Not ding on it and the limbs look brand new almost. It shoots very smoothly as well. The limb tips are reinforced so no problem with the harder string I was told. Kind of nice find.

String it up and try to get the right brace height that works for you!

It should be 3" shorter , recurve or longbow if it is built to AMO , but many bows are marked AMO length and they are not.
In your case a string 2" shorter doesn't seem right, but it comes down to what the string braces to .
Here is the AMO standard http://peteward.com/AMOStandards.pdf

I read that wrong on the first post , sorry!
A 58” string on a 60” bow is a tad short , as Pete suggested!

You mean "long". 58" is a tad long. Should be 57", right?

Trial and error !
Too low sndvit will be noisy and arrows will fishtail .
To high and the bow will stack too fast and be slower - but I t will be quieter
Best brace height for you will be a smooth both with arrows flying straight

Start at 8" brace on that bow, Thinking it will be somewhere between 7 3/4 to 8 1/4" . When it's good it will be at its least vibrations and shock, and be quiet .
