USGS gives it a 7.7. Earthquake Canada gives it a 7.1.

I wonder if there will be any more quakes?

A friend in hadaii gwaii (sp?) and it was actually scary for them as they got it good.

I was a little kid when the big Alaska quake...which is the same fault off of Vancouver Island hit If I am wrong..please mr APEGAgeol. correct me.

The garden tools were bouncing around all over in the garage.

That happened in he most beautiful place in B.C, Pouce Coupe

Also, that quake made the Radium Hot Springs turn black. Actual proof of plate tectonics

For you geologists out there, this was about the time the Plate Tectonic theory gained acceptence with that Scientific American article within public circles and the investment community.

I say we just start slapping deck boards on the pipeline and see how far it takes us.

In Honolulu as i type. Had to evacuate waikiki last night and head for high ground. 4 hours in a car and it turned out oahu had a few ripples...lol.....better safe then sorry i guess. The warning sirens all over the island were a little creepy.

I talked with a friend that looks after our place in Masset and he said that the shaking lasted about 30 seconds...... he mentioned it felt like a LONG time and it felt pretty strong. Afterwards they went around with the RCMP knocking on doors letting people know what happened and for them to get to high ground ( as know one new how big the wave would get ) . Most people ended up staying out on the highway until around midnight until all chance of a bigger wave passed . Apparently their was no damage that he noticed but he will be spending the day checking buildings and fuel tanks for problems. Thankfully the roof on my house and boat shelter is still there and he will check inside later to make sure the plumbing is not leaking . I'll be up there in a few weeks and would prefer to spend my time chasing blacktails than patching up drywall and plumbing .

I believe Japan quake was 8.9 and a "vertical" slip rather than horizontal.....hence the tsunami.

Pretty scary nonetheless!
