Default Which one would you keep??

I will be putting all but 2 of my rifles up for sale . My .243 and either my Ruger M77 mark11 in 30-06 or Browning 81 BLR .308.
So which one would you keep? 06 or .308. They both shoot well they both fit well. I am a basic hunter that doesn’t shoot long distances. These are both calibers that will do everything I need, I just can’t decide. I want to go down to one big game rifle.
Thanks for the help.

Keep the m77. I would normally go with 308 but the blr is not particularly accurate.

I’d keep the 06. Bolt action accuracy and can shoot the heavier slugs. Do you reload for either? You may consider keeping the one you have more components for if you do however...

Have been around a lot of blr,s and have not seen one yet that isn't accurate. Quick shooting & handy. If it was me I would be keeping the blr.

My vote is for the Ruger, BLR's to me have a face that only a mother could love. Looks like a rifle suffering from elephantitis
.

LOL - exactly what I was thinking ..... I have never owned or admired a browning. I know they are quality firearms, I can't, however, stand the looks of them.

I'm also not a lever guy. very few cosmetically appeal to me.

Keep the Ruger.

I would keep the Ruger, my first centre fire was a M77 mkII, and while it was not exactly the most graceful firearm money can buy, it was accurate and bombproof.
I no longer have that rifle, but have owned a couple of Hawkeye models since, I've never really been interested in a BLR.

Thanks guys, My Ruger was my first Left hand rifle ever. Before I used right handed ones to shoot left.

Yes, I do reload for both and have about the same for components.

Honestly, I would keep whichever of the two shoots better for you....unless there are memories attached. Almost evry rifle I've regeretted selling was for sentimental, rather than rational reasons.

I still wish I had my M77 mkII...traded it for something nicer years ago, but I wouldn't make that trade in hindsight.

keep the blr. I have taken deer out as far as 320 yds (as per my gps). Accurate fast and easy to shoot.

Thumbs up Ruger

Another vote for the Ruger.

I have a Ruger M77 in .270 that has served me well since I bought it in 1982.
Nice accurate rifle with the Weaver 2.5 x7 scope on it.

Ruger. My BLR is relatively accurate but man oh man the trigger on it sucks. I love my #1 and have always wanted an M77.

The 308 is a great cartridge but I would keep the bolt 30.06.

I suspect, you will regret selling either.

IMHE, Never sell quality.

Good Luck, YMMV.

If the 308 was in the Ruger M77 as well, then you would have a tough decision.

As it stands, I would keep the Ruger 30-06.

Good luck,

30-06, great caliber and bullet weight variety, plus bolt action is easier to fix in the bush and less moving parts for it to screw up in the bush. (You can tell I’m not a fan of lever actions)

There is no easy answer since I'm sure you like both of them,,, I had one heck of a time departing with my collection.

I can't look back at what I had, the trick is looking at what I have in the present,,, a 30/06, and a 308. Don't get me right or wrong since I like them both, but 1 of them will be my main unit for many years.

I know it's big and clunky,,, I can max it out for this, tap it down for that,,, 80 to 90% of its life is for plinking. Then its hammer time once fall roles along.

I'm in hammer mode right now. Ha.

My plan is to own 1 rifle, the trail that leads to this is longer than I thought,,, so I'll work into this category 1 day at a time.

No easy task to pull off,,, but I'm sure it can be done. I'm now focusing on the cartrage of one that fills those needs.

Good luck in what ever path you choose, perhaps this is the fun stuff when it comes finding what works.

The gun that fits us, the cartrage for the bullet, and the bullet that gets the job done. Of course the order of this can be switched around as well.

Keep both. You can end up with a ruined hunting season if a gun breaks and you can't get it fixed. Guy HAS TO HAVE a backup and since you really like both, already have them and are only going to free up a few hundred bucks it makes no sense to me to sell. You have he perfect situation, one light gun, and two mid range cartridges.

If I had to choose though, I would keep the Ruger.

I would say keep the one you shoot best, however the .308 will never be a .30-06.
Especially if you are using handloads.

Both good rifles, both good catridges. If they both shoot well it sounds like neither one of the cartridges holds any real edge for you. I carry my rifle a lot of miles every year, so for me I would be inclined to go with the BLR... but then again, they don't make Rugers like they used to... tough decision.

For me it would come down to two considerations, which particular rifle I like hunting with better, and which particular rifle I has the most sentimental value.

Another idea would be to set up the BLR with a peep sight, and keep the Ruger scoped. I like having a rifle wearing irons for those miserable days, or when every tree branch you touch dumps a bucket of snow on you. Some days a scope just isn't worth the bother IMO. Plus it gives you a little different flavor at the range.

Sounds like you need quality glass and some scope caps.
