280ai pet loads and primers
I have searched and read some older threads. Just wondering if any posters have changed or found something better for their 280ai?
My new rifle is a 280ai Fierce. Its a hunting rifle for all big game. I'm not a long range hunter. Just getting back into reloading after 2 years (little rusty) I would consider myself a novice reloader.
I have some Federal large mag rifle match primers and some Winchester Large Rifle primers. Which would be best in the 280ai?
I am using Nosler brass. I have a bunch of different powders and a bunch of bullets in the 7mm ( use to own a 7mm rem mag and 7mm-08). My factory target from Fierce was with factory Nosler 160gr accubonds and it was very good! So I am thinking that is a great place to start, but open to other options.

I’ve had good luck with imr4831 and imr4350 in all my 280’s. I’ve heard a lot of guys had good luck with Reloader 22 but I haven’t had the same success. My Nula 1:9 really likes the 150gr Nosler LRAB’s with some imr4831 pushing it.

I use Barnes 145 TTSX, 60.5 g Hunter powder, CCI Large rifle primer,
Nosler brass,
The max load for this is listed as 65g but I saw some pressure signs.
I'm getting 3140 FPS
I did try Nosler AccuBond Long Range but couldn't get them to group.
I also tried Mag primers and didn't see any difference.

I’m using the federal match magnum primers but I’m almost out and I can’t find them anywhere so I’ll have to try something else soon. Not too sure which ones I’ll try next.

Both of my rifles did best with R-22, behind a 140gr bullet. I used Federal 210 primers. I will never use Winchester primers after seeing the damage done to bolts by defective Winchester primers that ruptured along the edge.

I am using 160 Accubonds with rl26, Nosler brass and CCI large rifle primers. With about 59 grains it hit 3042'/sec. but settled at 58.6 gr. at around 2965'.sec. I haven't tried a mag primer.

If you have some RL-26, give it a try with a std LR primer. You should get top velocity with less pressure in that cartridge.

Not sure on the newer Winchester primers, but I was using some older ones and they blew a hole in the side of one. I use CCI primers and haven't had a problem.
I use a 7mmRM.

60.3gr retumbo, 162 ELDM, CCI BR2. my old 280AI was 60.5gr retumbo, 168 VLD hunt, CCIBR2. Velocity in the first one is 2886 out of a 22" barrel and the other one was 2935 out of a 25" barrel. Had great luck with retumbo powder and CCI BR2 primers with both 280's.

Start at 54 grains of IMR 4831, and a 150 grain Ballistic Tip or Partition, in Nosler brass, set off by a CCI BR2 primer.
You should max out around 58-59 grains, but start off as indicated.
I’m yielding just over 3000 FPS with this combination, from a 25” gain twist barrel.

I use a 168 Berger Classic Hunter, H4831SC, Fed 210, Nosler Brass. I would opt for a more Temp stable powder than R22. So I recommend H4831SC with a 160 AccuBond. Second would be R26 as it is more temp stable than R22 from what I have heard.
