Default Calgary skunk problem...what to do?

Neighbor has a skunk under their porch. They don't want it killed just moved. They can't seem to find a company that will live trap.

They have tried to block it off.

Skunk dug under the blocks.

Tried to put a bright light under and the skunk dragged ornaments over to block the light.

Anyone know a Calgary company or someone they can get to live trap a skunk?

They are frantic. Every time the skunk comes out the dog barks and skunk sprays the house. This is one stinking street.

This worked for me: Wait until late at night when the skunk is out hunting and surround the access/egress to the den with broken glass. I used a dozen beer bottles and a conveniently placed rock.

Call Cal. Bylaw enforcement or even local fis and wildlife office. Someone will have a live trap you can use.

I think the neighbors are scared to be sprayed. Neither of us have an open bed pickup truck.

Hoping they can hire someone. Drive it way out of town.

My fear is it works and the skunk moves to under my deck.

Get trap and cover with tarp, Place a hard boil egg and peanut butter in trap. You will not catch a cat this way. When in trap lift trap into truck with a large garbage bag on truck bed, place trap on and secure tarp onto trap or have it in a enclosed truck bed.remove just enough of tarp to lift up cage door and slip stick thru wire to hold up trap it will run out in minutes...Saying this ,it is why pest control company's do not want to release a animal that may have rabies, and now instead of being the solution to the problem they have just made it someone else's problem....do about 50 skunks a year

Makes perfect sense. Now to find someone that can do it for them.

I heard that throwing moth balls in the den will force them to move on. Municipal offices usually have live traps to loan. Live traps for skunks are $90 at Peavy Mart.

I've used moth balls several times under grain bins, campers & sheds. Worked every time. But when it moves out, it will be looking for another home, maybe your's.

Skunk trap plan. Wooden, so you don't have to see the cute little bugger before you gas him.

Is it baby time for skunks? Mom and dad had one mamma and her babies under their step, 2 weeks and mamma moved on. They just put up signs so no one surprised them.

Do you want to catch it or just have it move on?
The two times I had them move in, I just threw a box of mothballs under my porch and they moved on. worked great.

Default skunk

If you are going to relocate it make sure you go a hundred miles from anyone to drop it off. Don't give you problem to someone else. If it is a problem for you it will be for someone where you drop it off. Best to just kill it. We get well intentioned peoples drop-offs all the time out here in the country.

Skunks are out earlier this year because of global climate warming change. Dave Kawasaki has proof.

Default Skunk update

Neighbour hired a live trapper. Caught one within hours. 2 traps are there waiting to see if others are around.

Not baby time yet..although it IS baby making time for skunks...
Skunks are territorial..if releasing alive, do your best to release in an area without current skunks.

The neighbor has been billed a few thousand dollars once the greenie skunk savers were brought in. Dogs sprayed, two years now...it's bs.

Like Ralph said, shoot, shovel and shut up.

Gas them, poison them...anything that solves your problem below the radar!

I checked. Apparently they release in South Edmonton. Sucker will never make it back to Calgary.

Default Another update

Well they caught number 2 skunk. Wonder how many are around.

Company has had a skunk in the trap for two days now. You would think they would pick it up. Hopefully tomorrow.
